PRESIDENT's CORNER
Dear Friends/Neighbors:
We finally had the opportunity to host our Board meeting, in person. It was exhilarating to hug and have this physical contact with friends we have not seen in over 15 months! The atmosphere was jubilant, energetic, and filled with enthusiasm for the new social calendar/year. We are very excited to meet our new Westonites. Hence, we have scheduled a few events during the next 3 months. The events will be tailored to the number of registrants since these will be hosted at private homes in Weston. Be sure to follow us on social media. We look forward to embracing you as we navigate the new norms while respecting the various comfort levels of our community.

We usually sponsor a free Welcome Party open to all members of Weston who have not been club members during the last five years. Because we have so many new residents in town, we are considering holding two of these with limits on capacity. Tentative dates are Saturdays, September 18th, and October 2nd, from 6:30-9:30 PM. Watch social media and other communications to learn more details as we finalize "Pasta Night" events. These are BYOB events. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are provided.
|
|
MORNING COFFEE
This activity is a pop-up event and for the summer will be a backup if the weather does not permit a planned Morning Walk.
|
|
MORNING WALKS
This is a weather-dependent, light, and easy set of walks on local paths and area hiking trails. Inclement weather? A venue to meet for Morning Coffee might be suggested. Recently, the group has explored some of the Saugatuck River trails to enjoy the abundance of Connecticut's state flower, Mountain Laurel. We also enjoyed seeing fast rolling waterfalls along the river.
WHEN: These will be pop-up events throughout the summer, typically Monday Mornings
WHERE: Specifics are TBD but all are local to Weston
CONTACT: Get in touch with Kristen McDonald at [email protected] if you'd like to get on the email distribution. A description of the hike (location, level, length, etc.) will be provided before each one.

DINiNG IN - food and drink with friends at a member's home - get on the email list for details!
TIPs and TRICKs
A smoothie is a quick, easy, delicious, and healthy breakfast, lunch, or snack! You don't even need to measure the ingredients... all you really need is a blender.
First, a tip: Freeze fresh fruit so you can throw the smoothie together in minutes!
Fresh fruit is in abundance right now. On your next shopping trip, pick up: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries; mangoes also work great (and many stores pre-cut them for you). Wash the fruit and dry it on a paper towel in a sheet pan. [Note: Cut the green stems off the strawberries and cut them into smaller pieces.] Remove the paper towel and spread out the fruit on the pan. Freeze the fruit; this will take several hours. When frozen, store the fruit in plastic ziplock freezer bags.
So much better than pre-packaged frozen fruit!
To make the smoothie, add the following to a blender:
banana (cut up)
yogurt...(use what you prefer: Greek, non-fat, plain, etc.; full-fat vanilla is a fav)- at least one cup (no need to measure)
milk
apple juice (or mango juice or orange juice)
honey
frozen fruit
BLEND! (You can add more liquid (juice) if the mixture is too thick.)
ENJOY!
|
Look for the Sign-up Genius email to receive the menu and host address. Select the menu item you would like to prepare. Arrive with your dish ready to serve, your preferred beverage, a tally of your expenses (for menu item only please), and cash so we can even out the costs at the end of the evening. This is usually BYOB.
