Property Tax Update -

Information Regarding Escrow Checks From Mortgage Companies:

Mortgage companies may send escrow checks to the homeowner or directly to the Village. If the check is sent to the homeowner, the homeowner should make sure the check is payable to the Village of Whitefish Bay, signed on the back by all individuals listed as payees and submit the check to the Village for payment of the taxes. Checks that are not signed will be returned to the homeowner, which will cause a delay in processing the payment.

*Some mortgage companies send escrow checks to a third party tax service before mailing payments to the Village. In this case, your mortgage company may tell you the check was issued early in December but we may not receive the payment until the end of December or later. To see when your escrow check was received and obtain a receipt of payment, please visit the Village's tax portal.

When is My Tax Bill Due?

Gift wrapping: Do recycle paper-based wrapping and reuse gift bags. Do not put bows, ribbons and cellophane wrapping or metallic looking wrapping paper in your curbside recycling container.

Product packaging: Do recycle cardboard packaging. Do not place wires, foam, plastic bags, and/or loose plastics in your recycling container.

Overnight Parking Restrictions Lifted!

A friendly reminder from the Whitefish Bay Police Department that overnight parking restrictions will be lifted on select days for the upcoming holiday season. Overnight permission is not needed for the following dates:

  • From 12:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2022, through 5:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2023

While the overnight parking restrictions are lifted, please remember that you are still required to adhere to all other relevant signage that pertains to parking (i.e. winter parking restriction zones, loading zones, fire lanes, etc.). For dates without lifted parking restrictions, overnight parking permission can be obtained online.

Please remember that during the suspension of overnight parking restrictions, alternate side parking is still in effect!

In the winter, monthly permit holders and free nightly permissions will be required to follow alternate side parking. Vehicles should park on the even-numbered side of the street with an even calendar date before midnight, and on the odd-numbered side of the street on those nights with an odd calendar date before midnight (unless an exemption applies). Vehicles with monthly overnight parking permits must be moved once every 24 hours.

Snow Removal Reminders:

Village Roadway Snow Removal Procedures

Village crews are responsible to clear all public streets of snow, starting with the main thoroughfares. They then proceed to remove snow on streets adjacent to schools, followed by snow removal on the remaining residential streets and alleys. Sidewalks that abut Village-owned land, such as parks and government buildings, as well as public parking lots, are also the responsibility of Village Staff. At times a liquid anti-icing agent is applied to streets prior to a snow event to prevent ice from bonding to the pavement.

Resident Snow and Ice Removal

All residents and business owners are responsible for snow and ice removal from public sidewalks adjacent to their properties within 24 hours of a snow event. See below for more rules and reminders regarding snow removal:

  • Please clear all corners with crosswalks; handicap accessible ramps should be cleared out enough to accommodate a wheel chair.
  • Placing snow on property other than your own is not a legal practice. It is against Village Ordinance to push, pile, blow or shovel snow into and across the Public Street and alley. Please remind your contractors of this rule.
  • Machine noise by private citizens or contractor is prohibited between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Please be considerate of neighbors when clearing snow.
  • With the automated refuse and recycling program, collection carts continue to be required to be placed within three feet of the curb or alley edge and three feet away from any obstruction. Residents may use carriage walks and driveway approaches or shovel a portion of their parkway to provide adequate space for collection carts. Residents with an alley are required to shovel out and clear the top of their carts to ensure collectors have access to the carts. Village Public Works collectors may not be able to collect carts if they have not been shoveled out and cleared off.
  •  Fire hydrants should be shoveled out in a three-foot radius to allow access in the case of a fire.
  • Residents whose property has an adjacent bus stop with concrete are requested to keep that area clear and free of ice to allow for bus patrons to safely get on and off the buses.

Your assistance with all of these above matters is greatly appreciated.

Self-care tips for the holiday season

  • Don't freeze people out. Spend time with people who love and support you.
  • Chill out. Avoid overbooking yourself and don't feel guilty about making time for yourself.
  • Moderate the merriment. At all those holiday parties, eat and drink in moderation. Don't drink alcohol if you are feeling down.
  • Break out the ice skates. Take time to exercise, even if it's just taking a spin around the rink.
  • Get cozy. Sleep is important—make sure you're getting enough of it.
