Message from the Village President, Kevin Buckley
Two interesting meetings this week:
On Tuesday, the Community Development Authority (CDA) will discuss a variety of subjects, including their thoughts on a community development vision for Silver Spring.
On Thursday, the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) will discuss possible changes to the Residential Design Guidelines.
These meetings are at Village Hall and are open to the public. Details and agendas are linked below.

Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing? | |

Can I place plastic bags and styrofoam in my blue recycling cart? No! Plastic bags and styrofoam should instead be placed in your gray refuse cart for collection. Please see the article below for more recycling guidelines.
When is the next brush chipper collection? Brush will next be collected by Village crews this week (Beginning Sept 18). Brush should be placed in the parkway between the curb and the sidewalk.

National Voter Registration Day:
Tuesday, September 19, 2023, is National Voter Registration Day! Are you new to Whitefish Bay? Have you moved within the Village? Did your name change? If you said yes to any of these, you likely need to update your voter registration.
Register to vote at myvote.wi.gov or stop in at Village Hall to see Erin G., Deputy Clerk, or Jaimie, Village Clerk. Don’t forget to bring a proof of residence with your current address. Most commonly used proof of residence documents include Wisconsin Driver License, tax bill, electric bill, bank statement, or a paystub.

- Spring Election - April 2, 2024

Upcoming Architectural Review Commission (ARC) Meeting – Continued Review of Residential Design Guidelines
The Architectural Review Commission will continue its review of the Residential Design Guidelines on Thursday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m. (Village Hall). The existing guidelines are available online at https://ecode360.com/33299473. At Thursday’s meeting, significant discussion is anticipated on the topic of garage placement. A draft proposal is available for review here. Public attendance and input is encouraged.

Citizen Volunteer Needed
(ARC):
The Village of Whitefish Bay is accepting applications for resident volunteers to fill one (1) vacancy on the Architectural Review Commission.
The Architectural Review Commission ensures that the design and appearance of new structures and alterations / additions are compatible with the Village Design Guidelines. The Architectural Review Commission meets every other Thursday, 5:30pm at the Village Hall. The Village utilizes a rotating schedule so that members do not have to attend all meetings.
Interested residents should complete and submit an Online Application. Applications are due by 4:30 pm on Friday, September 29, 2023. Please email Village Manager Paul Boening with any questions.

Solar in Whitefish Bay:
Whitefish Bay has partnered with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association to coordinate a solar group buy in the Greater Milwaukee area. The advantage of a group buy is the power of volume purchasing, which can significantly reduce the up-front costs of installing solar on your home or business.

The bi-weekly automated refuse and recycling program is five years old!
With that in mind, it's a great time for some important reminders about the recycling program.
The following items can go in your blue recycling cart: Plastic Bottles & Containers, Food & Beverage Cans, Paper, Flattened Cardboard & Paperboard, Food & Beverage Cartons, and Glass Bottles & Containers!
Other items such as Plastic Bags, Food Waste, Foam, Textiles, Scrap Metal, Electronics, and Yard Waste should not go in your recycling cart.

The Director of Public Works functions as a department head under the supervision of the Village Manager. This person is responsible for the Village’s public works services including the operation and maintenance of, but not limited to, streets, sewers, water, lighting, sidewalks, public buildings, vehicle maintenance, grounds and right-of-ways.

Service Worker
Hourly rate starts at $24.99/hour with a 6 year pay increase plan and excellent benefits.
This full time position performs general labor tasks including but not limited to landscape maintenance, yard waste collection, tree/forestry maintenance, utility operation and maintenance, park and building maintenance, street maintenance as well as other general labor duties within the Department of Public Works.

Oct 25-28 - Great Pumpkin Festival
Wednesday, October 25, to Saturday, October 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. nightly (Pumpkins will be left up on October 29, but there are no festival activities on that day). Join friends and family at Old School House Park for this festive fall tradition! Check out the lighted display; enjoy beer, hot cider, and food from local vendors; and listen to live music each night.
Pumpkin pick-up will begin on Saturday, October 21, at Old School House Park. Bring pumpkins home to carve, and then return them to the park to be part of the lighted display!
Event hosted by the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation.

Oct 28 - National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Village Hall (5300 N Marlborough Dr). This event is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at locations in communities throughout the country.

Oct 28 - Trick-or-Treat Silver Spring Drive
Saturday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participating businesses offer treats for kids in the company of at least one parent or guardian on the Saturday before Halloween. There’s something “sweet-in-stores” for everyone on Silver Spring Drive. Event hosted by the Merchants of Whitefish Bay.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Housing, Race & Equity Workshop
SEPTEMBER 27, 6:30 p.m., at Bay Shore Lutheran
Habitat for Humanity is providing us with a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the impact of local history on housing patterns.
Through the examination of primary sources and data maps, participants will gain a better understanding of how intentional institutional choices resulted in segregated housing and the tangible effects that these decisions have had on the Milwaukee metro area.
In addition to analyzing recent housing trends, the workshop also offers a chance to make a commitment to affordable housing and learn practical ways to take informed action.
