WFCM News For You

Executive Director's Update

As we enter the month of February facing extremely cold temperatures and still shoveling out from the recent snowstorm, I am thankful for our local grocery store partners, DoorDash, and our volunteers who helped ensure families in our community were able to get groceries from WFCM during a time period when schools were unexpectedly closed and many families were not able to get the meals they rely on for their kids.

One family we provided groceries for was the James* family. Ms. James recently lost her job in healthcare and she and her son needed food. We provided an emergency delivery of groceries to get her through the weekend and then reached out to coordinate longer term services. She sent this note, "I have an appointment for tomorrow to pick up food. Thank you so much. This is a weight off my chest." We were also able to provide rental assistance for the James family during this period of financial instability.

Your partnership is critical and impactful as we work with community members, helping people to remain safely housed with food to prepare meals. Thank you!

God bless,

Harmonie Taddeo, Executive Director

What's New in the Food Markets and Client Services with Pamela Montesinos, Deputy Director

In January, despite the inclement weather, we provided client choice food selection for 656 unduplicated families (199 of those families were served at our Centreville Free Food Market). We served 32 new families. With the inclement weather and school closures, we provided emergency food for 55 families who had selected food earlier in the month and needed supplemental food. We are grateful for our partnership with DoorDash that enabled us to provide deliveries of monthly groceries to 55 households during the month.
