Brunch Church
World Communion Sunday
Generosity Kickoff
In the PC(USA), the first Sunday in October is designated as World Communion Sunday, which celebrates our oneness in Christ with all our brothers and sisters around the world. Begun in 1933 by a Presbyterian congregation in Pittsburgh, PA, the celebration promotes Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation bringing together churches around the world to receive both inspiration and information, and above all, to know how important the Church of Jesus Christ is and how each congregation is interconnected one with another. Today, World Communion Sunday is celebrated by Christians around the world, transcending denominations and languages.
At WFPC, we will celebrate World Communion Sunday with breakfast together in the Christian
Life Center followed by worship around the CLC tables. There will be opportunities to enjoy a
delicious breakfast prepared by our Fellowship and Events ministry, note on a world map the
places you have traveled and worshiped, sample delicacies from countries around the world,
serve each other communion around the tables, and engage in thoughtful conversation around
our place in the world.
Questions to be discussed around the tables will include describing a time you were a stranger
somewhere and someone helped you feel welcomed and how giving to the church can equip us
to be more welcoming inside the church, as well as taking the gospel outside our church’s walls
to the world and becoming more visible/welcoming to the world.
Breakfast will begin at 9:30 am; you'll remain at your tables for worship beginning at 10:00 am. After the worship service, the Finance Team will hold an open forum for anyone who is interested to take a deeper dive into the church’s finances.
October 6 will also serve as the kick off for the fall Generosity campaign, so look for weekly updates after that from the Generosity team, including a series of videos of congregation members sharing why they love WFPC. The campaign will culminate with Commitment Sunday on November 10.
If you are interested in sharing a delicacy from another country or helping with the preparation
of our breakfast, contact Bonnie Habicht or Eunice Shankland.
