Walnut Grove Library News

Library orientation began on September 8, and students will be coming home with books from the school library. During orientation, students will learn how they can be good library citizens.

Here is some basic library information that might be helpful for parents:

  • All first- through fifth-grade students can check out books during the morning recess or during their biweekly class visits.
  • Students can keep their books for two weeks.
  • Students need to return their books or renew them before they can check out new books.
  • There are no fines for overdue books; the only time a book needs to be paid for is if it is lost or damaged beyond repair.

If you need to know when your student's books are due back at the library, you can access this information from our library website. The instructions are on the Library Destiny Home Page.

One more helpful hint: Water bottles in backpacks have become the number-one enemy of library books. Once a book's binding gets wet, the book is susceptible to mold and cannot be repaired. So please keep books and water bottles in separate parts of backpacks or in plastic ziplock bags.

"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book."                             --Frank Serafini

     Buy farm-fresh products from Farmigo!
This year, our fifth graders are working on a project to help supplement the cost of their field trips.
We have partnered with a company called Farmigo.

Farmigo will deliver farm-fresh products to our school site. We believe that this partnership with Farmigo will provide a leadership opportunity for our 5th graders to coordinate and deliver the food, promote healthy living and food connections to our WG families, and help supplement the cost of planned 5th-grade field trips.

We would really appreciate your help in getting this program started. This is how it works:
  1. CLICK HERE to view the WG Farmigo website.
  2. Customers order products online by Sunday night.
  3. Products are delivered to school every Wednesday.
  4. Customers pick up produce in designated area or 5th grade will deliver products. (We are still working this part out.)
Our first Walnut Grove delivery is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24. This means that all orders need to be submitted online by Sunday night, September 21.

**  For your first order, Farmigo is offering a coupon. The coupon is for $10 off any $20 order. Use this coupon code: SCHOOLSBACK

Calling All Artists!

The PTA Reflections art program is back!
Every Walnut Grove student is encouraged to enter one or more pieces of art in the categories listed below.

The National PTA's Reflections program encourages students in pre-K through grade 12 to explore and become involved in the arts.

The theme for the 2014-2015 school year is

"The world would be a better place if..."

Thousands of students will reflect on the theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, music composition, literature, photography, and visual arts.

In late October, Walnut Grove will have a small ceremony acknowledging every student's artwork entry. More information, including rules for entry and entry forms, can be found on the California PTA website.

Deadline to drop off WG Reflections entries:
Friday, October 10 in the office.

Contact Amy Paden for more information.
