WGSS remembers Gloria Steinem, a defining voice of the U.S. women’s movement, who has died at 92. As a journalist, author, activist, and co-founder of Ms. Magazine, she devoted her life to challenging inequality and championing women’s rights across the United States. Steinem’s influence extended beyond her writing as she created spaces for people to share their stories and imagine a more equal world. Her courage and independent spirit leaves a lasting legacy.

MA in Migration and Diaspora Studies Info Session
September 24th, 5-6pm | RSVP here
Migration doesn’t just move people—it transforms societies, challenges borders, and reshapes what belonging means in the modern world. Building on the success of WGSS' microminor in Immigration and Migration Studies, GW’s innovative and interdisciplinary new 30-credit MA in Migration & Diaspora Studies prepares students to understand, analyze, and influence these transformations. Unlike programs focused primarily on European or Global South contexts, GW’s MA is uniquely positioned at the intersection of U.S. immigration politics and global diaspora studies. It combines deep expertise in American immigration policy and community with rigorous comparative and transnational frameworks about mobilities. Students in this program will take cutting-edge courses with award-winning faculty and benefit from the program's partnership with GW’s Center for Immigration and Migration Studies, which hosts the Metropolitan Washington Workshop on Immigration and Race, convenes leading national and international scholars, and connects students directly to the region’s immigration research and advocacy community. If you have questions and would like to learn more, join our first info session on September 24, or email the Program Director, Professor Kavita Daiya, at kdaiya@gwu.edu.
