 WHAT DID VALERIE DO?
Hi Theatre Lovers,

It is so hard for me to believe that we are presenting our last show of our subscription series as we speak! The feedback for Mary of Shanty Bay has been nothing short of amazing!

Myself, my daughters and my granddaughters went to see this in Collingwood last night. LOVED IT (again). I had previously seen it in Shanty Bay before Covid. So good I needed to share with my family. Don’t miss Mary and Edward’s Story!!” Sandra

The story of Mary Sophia Gapper’s life in Canada in 1828 is incredibly interesting and so beautifully portrayed by the playwright Leah Holder who also plays the role of Mary in the performance. This true story is taken from Mary’s own diaries. What started off as a short visit to Canada to see her brother in Thornhill soon became a lifelong adventure with her husband Edward O’Brien, building their home on the edge of a new world. FACT: today, if you visit St. Thomas Anglican Church in Shanty Bay you will see the O’Brien family is buried there.

MARY OF SHANTY BAY runs through to this Saturday, October 8th at the Simcoe Street Theatre. Tickets are still available Friday's 2pm and 7pm shows and for Saturday's 7pm show. Order yours at www.theatrecollingwood.ca or by calling 705-445-2200. Please also note that we always have special Student and Arts Worker tickets for just $20.00!

Please do not miss this one. Step into another world as you enter the theatre and enjoy the wonderful story and visuals. And by doing so you are also supporting live theatre in Collingwood. You know these locations….come hear what they were like in 1828!
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBER!

On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, I would like to welcome Jim Roe to the Theatre Collingwood Board!

Many of you are aware that the Collingwood Arts, Culture & Entertainment Group (CACE) sent a question out to all candidates currently running in our local municipal election.

The question was:

Cost, location and size for an arts, culture and entertainment centre will be addressed by the consulting company (Nordicity) contracted by the Town of Collingwood. Subject to credible financial analysis, do you support a purpose-built centre for Arts, Culture and Entertainment in Collingwood?

YES
NO or
OTHER
We published those results in a recent newsletter. Since then these results have been updated. They are as follows:

Brandon Houston -YES - Thank you for sending me this question. I'd like to go a little further than the single question survey if that's okay. I believe it deserves a little more depth. In Collingwood we have an enormous wealth of artists contributing to our arts and culture scene. We've gone to some distances showcasing that, but I believe we can do much more. The amount of talent we have in our region on a per capita basis is surprisingly high. We should be doing more to highlight and promote that. I think investing in it through something like the building of an arts and culture centre just makes sense. Art and culture are the soul of any community. Regardless of if you think you are interested in, take part in, or are familiar with art and culture, you are surrounded by it every day. It makes up the world around us and it provides an economic and social impact that isn't always understood or appreciated. But, it's the thread of what ties a community together.

Bob Madigan - YES

Norm Sandberg - YES

Steve Johns - YES

Steve Berman - Other - Far too many variables for me to commit to a hypothetical scenario.

Anonymous - YES

Cam Ecclestone - YES

Mariane McLeod - YES

Yvonne Hamlin - YES - I strongly support an arts and entertainment centre in Collingwood. It would bring vibrancy to our downtown, enrich the community and engage our young people. It would be a major economic benefit to our Town and draw in visitors from our region and beyond. Building an arts and entertainment centre is a priority for me.

George Dickenson - YES

Ian Chadwick - YES

Deborah Doherty - YES

Tim Fryer - YES

Chris Potts –YES

Rob Ring - OTHER - I could strongly support a purpose-built Arts, Culture and Entertainment Centre in Collingwood, but I would like to review the cost, location, size, and see a credible financial analysis of this Centre before I make a 100% commitment.

Christopher Baines – YES

Steve Perry – YES - As a previous business owner who was involved in teaching arts (film), YES…I am fully on board with my support of an all-encompassing Arts, Culture and Entertainment Centre. This is a must for our town!!

Kathy Jeffery - Subject to credible financial analysis of the project, community support as a priority and acceptable financial impact to the Town’s ongoing budgets and its ability to achieve all critical priorities, I can support pursuing the build of a purpose-built centre for arts, culture and entertainment.

THEATRE COLLINGWOOD BELIEVES THAT IT IS TIME TO BUILD A PURPOSE-BUILT CENTRE FOR ARTS, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT IN COLLINGWOOD TO BE A HUB FOR THE ARTISTIC COMMUNITY, A BEACON FOR THE GREATER PUBLIC, AND AN ECONOMIC DRIVER FOR THE REGION.

Election Day is Monday, October 24th, 2022

Here's a little giggle for you as you prepare for Thanksgiving this year. As we all know, sometimes when families gather together there can be certain interesting dynamics that come up year after year.  Lilly Singh is a Canadian YouTuber and former talk show host. Born and raised in Scarborough, Singh began making YouTube videos in 2010. She now earns over $1 Million a year doing this!  Watch how Lilly portrays her family members in this fun YouTube video. There are references to the American Thanksgiving but the sentiment might be familiar!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend everyone! We are THANKFUL for YOU!
