HOW CAN YOU START

TO PRAY THE ROSARY WITH FAMILY?

Many have heard

“The family that prays together stays together”

as said by Servant of God Venerable Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C.

The family rosary has been a staple of Catholic home devotions

for centuriesfor good reason.

  • It teaches us, especially our children, our faith's basic prayers.

  • It covers the essential moments in the life of Christ,

encapsulating the Gospel story.

  • It helps us start to spend time with God in meditative prayer.

In short, the rosary is a wonderful way to

ask for God’s help and Mary’s intercession.

HUMOR FOR

THE HEART

A church had a picnic

and invited the entire community.

The Pastor placed a basket full of apples

on one end of a table with a sign saying,

"Take only one apple please! Remember that God is watching."

On the other end of the table was a plate of cookies

where a child placed a sign saying,

"Take all the cookies you want -- God is watching the apples."

GLORY OF GOD

"As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem,

he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.

As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him."

  • Our Lord did for ten lepers what the great prophet Elisha did for one.

  • But only one of them, also a foreigner like Naaman, returned to thank God.

  • When Jesus said to the Samaritan leper who returned to thank Our Lord, “your faith has saved you,” the man must have understood what Naaman learned upon his own healing: “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel.” The Samaritan former leper knew that God’s power had to be at work in Christ.

  • What is the meaning of the basic Christian doctrine that “The world was created for the glory of God”? According to St. Bonaventure, God created “not to increase his glory, but to show it forth and to communicate it.” In other words, “God has no other reason for creating than his love and goodness.” (CCC 293)
  • God desires to share his goodness, truth, beauty, love, and happiness with beings that would not exist if he did not create them.

  • The material universe itself in its age, size, laws, simplicity and complexity, order, information, power, and beauty manifest God’s greatness and goodness.
  • Lower creatures, lacking consciousness and reason, show but don’t know God’s glory.
  • As conscious and rational beings, we both show and can know God’s glory.

  • But there is more. God made human beings “to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us” through his Son (Eph 1:5-6).
  • Through Christ, we are no longer just creatures of God. We have been adopted by God to be his sons.

ANSWER TO QUIZ

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are

wisdom, understanding, counsel,

fortitude, knowledge, piety,

and fear of God.

  • Wisdom is both the knowledge of and judgment about “divine things” and the ability to judge and direct human affairs according to divine truth.

  • Understanding is penetrating insight into the very heart of things, especially those higher truths that are necessary for our eternal salvation

—the ability to “see” God.

  • Counsel allows a man to be directed by God in matters necessary for his salvation.

  • Fortitude denotes a firmness of mind in doing good and in avoiding evil, particularly when it is difficult or dangerous to do so, and the confidence to overcome all obstacles, even deadly ones, by virtue of the assurance of everlasting life.

  • Knowledge is the ability to judge correctly about matters of faith and right action, so as to never wander from the straight path of justice.

  • Piety is, principally, revering God with filial affection, paying worship and duty to God, paying due duty to all men on account of their relationship to God, honoring the saints and not contradicting Scripture. The Latin word pietas denotes the reverence that we give to our father and to our country; since God is the Father of all, the worship of God is also called piety.

  • Fear of God is, in this context, “filial” or chaste fear whereby we revere God and avoid separating ourselves from him—as opposed to “servile” fear, whereby we fear punishment.

BOOK

RECOMMENDATION

We need to be armed for battle!

At all times, and especially during these crazy times in this vale of tears,

we need to lay our foundation in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual reading helps us build and strengthen that foundation.

This week's recommendation is:

Praying the Rosary Like Never Before:

Encounter the Wonder of Heaven and Earth

by Edward Sri

“Offering God a decade or two

in the midst of my daily life

gives him something beautiful,

even if I give it without

my full, relaxed, undivided attention.

I’m giving God some space in my day and

filling it with words of praise for him.”

Do you struggle with praying the rosary:

finding time, fighting distractions, worrying about your mind wandering?

So does everyone elseincluding the greatest saints!!!

In Praying the Rosary Like Never Before, Edward Sri gives

practical suggestions from the rosary’s tradition and,

most especially, St. John Paul II, who struggled with these same difficulties.

These helpful tips will make the rosary a constant companion

through the different seasons, moments, and challenges we all face.

These tips are easy on-ramps for those who don’t pray the rosary regularly

and motivate avid devotees to go deeper with the Lord.

We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled, Christ centered life.
