With Prince George's County experiencing high office vacancy - 19.8% at the end of Q3, according to CBRE - some developers are looking to convert old, empty office buildings to residential.
Varsity Investment Group received county approval Thursday to convert a vacant, 10-story office building in Oxon Hill to a 187-unit multifamily project, UrbanTurf reports.
The building at 6009 Oxon Hill Road sits just off the Beltway, about three miles from the MGM National Harbor and Tanger Outlets. The 216K SF building was constructed in 1989.

Washington Business Journal: As D.C. - area Localities Plot Individual HQ2 Bids, They'll Have Regional Statistics to Back Them Up
D.C.-area localities are sticking to their respective plans to offer separate bids for Amazon's HQ2, but now they have a fat file of statistics to help make their case as a region.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments has partnered with communications consultants APCO Worldwide and Datastory to organize "Amazon DMV," a report on 75 data points that the jurisdictions can use to show the strength of Greater Washington in their submissions.
They better hurry though. Responses to Amazon's request for proposals are due Oct. 19. The Seattle-based online retailer is looking for a second North American headquarters, for which it says it will invest $5 billion, develop up to 8 million square feet and create 50,000 jobs.
