We Celebrate Our Residents
We value them. Not just the properties where they live.
Antwana Taylor graduated from Vero Beach High School and will pursue a career in nursing. She lives in the Victory Park Apartments owned by Indian River County Housing Authority in Florida.
Jamaiya Holson earned straight A's when she graduated from Rosewood Magnet School in Vero Beach, Fla. She too lives at Victory Park Apartments in that city. And in that state.
 Alexis Dixon graduated from Florida Memorial University with a degree in criminal justice. She lives at Golden Acres Development, which is part of the Housing Authority of Pompano Beach.
Team Effort: Computer Lab in Toledo Apartments
Another great partnership! In 2020, Huntington Bank's Community Development Corporation (CDC) committed $2.5 million over the next five years to provide flexible grant dollars to support technology infrastructure and training to further economic mobility through digital access. The stay-at-home orders highlighted disparities in educational advancement for youth and engagement opportunities for seniors, and these grants of up to $30,000 can improve access to connectivity for our residents. Huntington Bank and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) partnered to award grants to partners working to increase digital inclusion and connectivity for low- and moderate-income residents in affordable housing communities throughout Ohio. Parqwood Apartments, a 134-unit mixed-income affordable housing community for the elderly, near elderly and disabled, located in the historic “Old West End” of Toledo, Ohio, is the proud recipient of one of those $30,000 grants. In April of this year, the doors to the David Olenik Cyber Café opened, named in honor of the man whose work at the Bank's CDC will continue to change lives. The cafe is owned by Parqwood Apartments, L.P. and professionally managed by Nelson and Associates, Inc.

Diverse Housing Services
Not only do we help manage properties in multiple states, we've also created a nonprofit that has one central focus: preserving affordable rural housing. One of our projects is in Pahokee, Fla., and our work there was featured in the national Washington, D.C.-based Housing Assistance Council annual report for 2020. Read a copy of the piece here.
New Home Built for a 'Deserving Family'
Both the Nelson Team and Chase Construction & Inspection Group partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati on July 28 to volunteer to work on the already-being-constructed house. It is being built at 6318 Witherby Avenue in Cincinnati and will be the new resting place for "a deserving family," according to Chelsea Hillman, our Director of Human Resources. "Habitat has recently opened back up to volunteers and we were one of the first companies they reached out to."

As the Pandemic Continues, So Does Government Help

As the federal government continues to decide the best path forward during the pandemic and states and counties are doing the same, those residents who need help can get it. Our Chief Operating Officer Tawana Shaw attended the Real World Conference, held July 11 in Nashville, Tenn. The annual conference provides educational content, professional development and networking opportunities--as long as it's related to the rental housing market and those who work in it. Along with Ms. Shaw, our Compliance Manager Danielle Brock also attended the big three-day event. Any benefit? "Yes," said Ms. Shaw, "because the industry has changed so much in the last 18 months! Due to the pandemic, we had to find a new way to meet the needs of our residents. RealPage had added so many new features and upgrades that will allow us to do that more effectively. We are very excited and have already begun to implement some of the new features!"
