What steps can you take to protect yourself and your family?
|
|
You can also take steps to protect you and your family and help prevent the potential spread of the virus!
Clean your hands often
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice!), especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Clean and disinfect
- Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
- If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
- PLEASE NOTE: Vodka usually contains 35-46% alcohol by volume; therefore, it is not effective to fight coronavirus. The CDC explains why lower alcohol concentration is less desirable generally, “Many studies have found that sanitizers with an alcohol concentration between 60–95% are more effective at killing germs than those with a lower alcohol concentration or non-alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers without 60-95% alcohol 1) may not work equally well for many types of germs; and 2) merely reduce the growth of germs rather than kill them outright.”
- Launder items including washable plush toys as appropriate in accordance with the manufacturer’ instructions. If possible, launder items using the warmest appropriate water setting for the items and dry items completely. Dirty laundry from an ill person can be washed with other people’s items.
Social distancing
-
maintain a distance between you and other people —
in this case, at least six feet.
