WHERE GOOD NEWS COMES FROM

Our job as activists, and maybe as human beings, is turning bad news into good news. Not by spin or lies. By positive, loving interaction, by building community, by seizing opportunities to empower each other. Today is another day we’re all blessed with the ability to do that.   Moments ago, the Supreme Court struck down a New York law limiting the ability to carry guns in public.   Right now, we can help you reach out to eligible voters with a text or postcard, and use a pro-gun safety laws message to help them register to vote.   We anticipate a disastrous ruling overturning abortion rights to come down sometime in the next two weeks.    Today, you can join a pro-abortion rights phone bank, text bank, or postcard campaign and reach out to help register women who are eligible voters and likely Democrats. We’ll be adding more every day.   Let’s harness these temporary setbacks to swell our ranks, so we can elect Democrats who will reverse these decisions permanently. Because YOU are how we turn bad news into good news.

BECAUSE SAVING OUR DEMOCRACY IS GOLDEN! We have some huge good news! Field Team 6 is partnering with MeidasTouch and we couldn’t be more thrilled! The three Meiselas brothers and their next generation, progressive super PAC have a huge presence on Twitter and YouTube, a sharp podcast and a bold commitment to using their considerable megaphone prowess to aid pro-democracy causes, Democratic candidates and fellow progressive organizations. Like Field Team 6!  Which is why we’re thrilled to share that each week MeidasTouch is going to be promoting select FT6 voter registration volunteer opportunities! GEORGIA STARS: FT6 IN-PERSON DRIVE DRAWS VERY SPECIAL GUESTS! For Juneteenth, several Field Team 6ers held an in-person registration drive in Atlanta... and got a surprise visit from the Peach State's own U.S. Senators, Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff! The Senators were leading a Juneteenth parade, and stopped by to thank our volunteers, who were hard at work registering new Georgia Democrats. Drive organizer Dale Williams with sunglass-rocking Senator Reverend Warnock.

Photo ops ensued! These lucky volunteers spent the day registering voters with the new Field Team 6 Magic QR Handouts which take registrants to Voterizer.org, the fastest way to register a Democrat. THE TWEETS THEY ARE A-RANKIN' (NEW RECORD LAST WEEK!) Give yourselves a big pat on the back, Stormers! Last week we beat all our previous Twitter records which is, quite frankly, insane. How big were our numbers? Try 68.4 million impressions on over 11,000 tweets. We’ve been averaging between 50-60 million impressions every week this year, but this is the second week in a row we’ve broken 60 million. Amazing! Huge props to our wonderful Social Storm Czar Deb Verla, who's led these events for over a year now! And to all you passionate volunteers who have made this happen! And with the Jan 6 Committee Hearings in full swing, it's more important than ever to keep the momentum going. TONIGHT! THURSDAY, JUNE 23: SLACK WATCH PARTY... JAN 6TH SELECT COMMITTEE HEARING ZOOM RE-STREAM The January 6th Select Committee is now four for four. Each day of the hearings has been utterly damning for Trump and his allies. And they've been eye-opening for those who hadn't previously woken up to the fact that the Disgraced Former President and his cabal are, as respected Day 3 witness, Judge J. Michael Luttig, testified: "a clear and present danger to American democracy." But it's still a tough watch — because we came so close to losing everything. That's why we're once again jumping on Slack to watch a re-stream together. We can not only joke, cry, and talk each other through it... We can also share good ideas for social media posts that help amplify the truth... and post all the ways for people to register Democrats! That's exactly how we block this slow-moving coup and protect our democracy! JUNE 25, WOMEN'S MARCH ACTION HQ GRAND OPENING After four years of hard work and commitment, Field Team 6 partner Women’s March Action has become a central hub for electing pro-choice, pro-woman candidates. They've reached millions of voters and supported hundreds of candidates. And now, they have an official space for coming together and building power to win elections. TUESDAY, JUNE 28: VOLUNTEER FAIR With so much happening right now, and the midterms fast approaching, you really want to do something... but you're not sure what. We get it. FRIDAY, JULY 1: RELAX IN THE AIR-CONDITIONED ARCADE! The problem? Field Team 6 has contact information for millions of eligible, likely Democrats – FAR more than we can afford to text. Yet texting is an incredibly effective outreach tool. And there is always huge volunteer demand for texting. So the only obstacle is funding. The solution? Text Arcades. A Text Arcade is a super-fast text bank that costs $25 a ticket. And here's why that's a game-changer... 100% of your ticket price goes to funding this textbank. In fact, we're subsidizing the costs of texting to keep the ticket price reasonable, so shout-outs (shouts-out?) to our other donors who are helping defray costs as well! Text Arcades will allow us to reach far more people and register far more Democrats. VOLUNTEER SHOUTOUT: SARAH BIHMS

This week, we’re lighting up the FT6 Summer Campfire of Appreciation and toasting some marshmallows in honor of an awesome volunteer, Sarah Bihms. She lives in Arizona, where her dad was a political cartoonist for the AZ Daily Star, so she was exposed to liberal politics from the get-go. “Thanks to my dad I grew up looking at politics through a satirical lens. How hypocritical and deceitful the GOP are with their messaging. It frustrates me that regular folks don’t use critical thinking to see through the lies. So I channel that frustration into helping folks learn to think critically about government and our leaders.” Sarah is passionate about a number of causes, including saving democracy, gun safety, equal rights for women and minorities, and (hopefully) watching the MAGA GOP lose. Because she’s super-shy, being able to have these conversations with people through text and postcards is very rewarding. In addition to postcarding, textbanking and social storming for FIeld Team 6, Sarah works with Surprise Indivisibles, Moms Demand Action, and Save Our Schools AZ.  She even gets her kids involved in her activism. “I’ll have my 5-year-old press “enter” to send texts, my 10-year-old puts stamps on postcards and takes them to the mailbox, and my 2-year-old…cries, throws fits, and draws all over my desk.” She says this way, they can learn that fighting for democracy and voting rights is important and not something we can take for granted.  Sarah knows her home state is full of extremists. “There are a lot of crazy gun nuts out here. My husband is black and I’m white; we’ve had multiple run-ins with racists, and it is scary. My goal is to make the racists go back under their rock, reign in extremism, and put some gosh darn common sense back in government. But I can only do that if people vote.” Sarah, we salute your dedication to the cause, your ongoing passion for saving democracy, and your desire to inspire the next generation. We're honored to have you in the FT6 family and look forward to some midterm victories with you in November!

HATCH YOUR OWN FIELD TEAM 6 CHAPTER*! As the midterms loom, there’s no better time to assemble your peeps into a new Field Team 6 chapter, come up with a name for it, and lead them to register Democrats! ("Chapter" sound daunting? Call it a club, a justice league, a brunch bunch. If you and someone else are in it, it works for us! It's like the carpool lane!)   Your chapter can work in-person or virtually. It can draw from a geographic base (e.g. FT6 Five Points Atlanta)... an ethnic group (FT6 Chinese-Americans for Democracy)... or even an alumni pool (FT6 Notre Dame Fighting Democrats). Your community can be tiny at first. As long as you’re engaging and registering people, you’re making a difference!    Field Team 6 makes it easy-peasy to get going. We can help you create a Slack channel to communicate with your chapter members. We have a calendar of events you can join. We have training sessions to get you started phonebanking, textbanking, postcarding, and social storming. Questions?
