How will the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and the Monitor-It-Yourself (MIY) alarm systems disrupt the professionally installed and monitored alarm system industry? Some of you have already experienced the creep of DIY in your business. The idea of DIY is appealing to, and driven by, tech savvy millennials. Millennials typically live in rental housing or apartments, an untapped market in the security industry, and want the ability to see what is going on in their home at the touch of a button from an app on their smartphone.

Wright-Hennepin International Response Center (WHIRC) has been researching a way to tie together a DIY option that allows for professional monitoring with a self-installed alarm system. This will allow our dealers to compete in the DIY market without disruption to their core business: professionally installed and monitored alarm systems.

A new program was recently introduced that we believe will jump us into the DIY market while continuing to offer the quality professional monitoring you are accustomed to with WHIRC. We recently partnered with DragonFly, a turnkey program that allows us to be competitive in the fast-growing DIY market. You can read more about DragonFly in our feature article, however the important things to know are that the product fulfillment, tech support, billing and collections are all taken care. That means we can concentrate on monitoring your new customers while you continue to focus on your core business.
