January 5: Intervention Time

WHS will be running another intervention long block tomorrow. The schedule will be as follows:

7:30 - 8:30 am - A block Blue

8:35 - 9:50 am - Intervention time

9:55 - 10:55 am - Tan block class

11:00 - 11:30 am - Advisory

This intervention time will prove to be extremely valuable for students who needed to miss time the week before the break. This should be an opportunity for students to see teachers and catch up.

January 5: Guidance Parent Evening

On January 5 at 7 pm, the Guidance Department will host the next installment of its "Parent Evening" series. The topic tomorrow is gap years and will feature Jason Sarouhan from J2 Guides. The meeting will be virtual and can be accessed with the following link and information:

Community Help Needed: Senior Project Program

The Senior Project Program will be running this spring of 2022. The Senior Project program enables qualified seniors to spend their final month of school working on a substantive project of their own choice on a partial or full-time basis. Senior projects are designed to help the student explore a personal interest. Such exploration might include a possible career choice, a special talent, or a community service project. Work on a Senior Project must be completed in school and/or under explicit supervision of an organization, a professional teacher or a professional mentor. All Senior Projects will fall under one of three categories: Internship, Community Service or Teaching Assistant.

This year, we would like to provide more students with the opportunity to engage in a Senior Project. To do that, we’re asking you, our Wellesley High School community, if you know of any:

1. People or companies willing/open to hosting internships

2. People to be mentors for young entrepreneurs (students who aren't interning, but want to create a business plan and therefore don't necessarily need a place to go to do work as much as an advisor with knowledge of the process/business, etc).

Seniors have been sent information on Senior Project to their school emails and a series of “office hours” will be held the week of January 10th to answer any questions. Senior Project applications are due February 11th, 2022.

Save the Date: Next WHS PTSO Meeting

Please join us at our next WHS PTSO meeting on January 19 at 9:00 am. The meeting will be held virtually. Register and submit questions in advance using this link. Upon registration, you will receive the Zoom information for the meeting.

In addition to a leadership update from Dr. Chisum, we plan to focus on course selection, including this year's timeline and courses available within various departments. Dana Plunkett, WHS Director of Guidance, will also give a brief talk about the Pre-ACT and PSAT. A formal agenda will be shared closer to the meeting date.

1-3-21 Letter from WHS re: Winter Athletics

Dear Families,

We are writing with an update regarding the winter athletic season that was temporarily suspended last week due to a significant increase in COVID cases among WPS athletes in a very short period of time. Earlier today, staff from WPS and the Wellesley Health Department met to assess our current status and review possible mitigation steps that could be taken to resume winter athletics. From that meeting, we all agreed that winter athletics could safely resume based on adherence to the following accommodations:

Locker rooms will not be used as storage areas for personal belongings. Instead they will only be used as changing areas that will be available before practices and contests but not during or after. All social distancing and mask policies must be used while in the changing room area. This is intended to reduce the amount of time the students are in the locker rooms together. The athletes will simply enter, change, and leave for their practice or competitions.
The Hockey locker rooms at the Boston Sports Institute (BSI) will not be used at all. Athletes must come to the facility dressed. Coaches will relay further guidelines and information. This is the same practice we followed last year with great success.
Student athletes and coaches that are indoors must continue to be masked.
While riding on a bus, students should remain as distanced as possible, masks must be worn, and windows must remain open. Additionally there is no eating or drinking allowed while riding on the school bus.
Spectators will be limited to two adults per rostered student athlete at all home athletic contests. Away contests and neutral site venues will have their own guidelines. This information will be made available as we are informed by our opponents.
Athletes and coaches who are experiencing symptoms should not attend contests or practices.
We are currently working to reschedule the contests that were postponed during the pause.

We will resume all practices tomorrow (Tuesday) with outdoor competitions to begin on Wednesday and indoor competitions to begin this Friday. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked our way through this complex moment with our current health crisis.

Coaches will be in touch with their teams about details for their next meetings.

In 1951, the Wellesley Scholarship Foundation (WSF) was founded with a mission of supporting students from our community with financial assistance for their post-secondary education. WSF will be accepting applications for scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year until March 1, 2022. Wellesley Youth Field Hockey - Spring 2022 Programs

WYFH Saturday clinics (4/2/22 - 4/30/22) (Registration deadline: March1st)
Focus on Fundamentals - For new and less experienced players to field hockey.
Grades 1-8; $100/player
Advanced Skills & Drills - For more advanced players with at least 3 years of experience and looking to take their skills to the next level.
Grades 5-9; $120/player
Spring Season Programs (4/30/22 - 6/11/22)
Skills & Scrimmage s - First half hour skills followed by half hour of instructional scrimmage play.
Grades 1/2 & 3/4; $150/player (Registration deadline: March 31st)
Spring League Play - Designed to be fun, competitive, and give players lots of touches with small-sided 7v7 games.
Grades 5/6 &7/8/9; $300/player (Registration deadline: January 31st)

New program format this year, so please check out details on our website (www.wellesleyfieldhockey.com).
Families are encouraged to register now to avoid the $50/player late fee and WYFH can let the league know the right # of teams that will be participating this spring.
We would like parents to volunteer to coach and learn field hockey if they are also new to the sport. Please reach out to admin@wellesleyfieldhockey.com to volunteer and learn more information.
