WHS PTSO Workshop: Fostering Leadership and Self-Worth in Teens

Please RSVP by tomorrow using this link! On Tuesday, March 15 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm, the WHS PTSO is hosting an in-person workshop led by Evren Gunduz from Enjoy Life Education. This exciting event will take place in the WHS library. The focus will be on helping parents and guardians understand the teen mindset and sharing tools for fostering leadership and self-worth at home.

Guidance Parent Evening: Student Athlete/NCAA Night
|
|
The next installment of the Guidance Parent Evening series will take place on March 9th at 7 pm. The focus will be on student athletes who may be interested in participating in college athletics in Division I, II or III of the NCAA. This event is recommended for interested sophomore students and their families. Kim Penney from One on One College Consulting will be the guest speaker.

Want to have fun and support a great cause? Adults in our WHS PTSO community are invited to join the WHS PTSO-sponsored team in this year's WEF Spelling Bee taking place on April 6 at 7:00 pm. The next WHS PTSO meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:30 am. We are excited to host this meeting in-person in the faculty dining room at WHS. Wellesley Green Schools Meeting

Please join us for our next Wellesley Green Schools Meeting via Zoom on March 8, 2022 at 10:00am. We hope you can join us for our next meeting where we begin to move past some of the restrictions of the past couple of years to new options and opportunities. We will definitely update you on green initiatives at our schools but we will also take some time to brainstorm about how we can be most effective going forward! Bring all of your ideas and energy!

DEADLINE EXTENDED: In-Kind Donations Needed for Medical + Humanitarian Support in Ukraine
A local non-profit organization, Sunflowers of Peace, is collecting medical supplies for doctors and paramedics to provide urgent medical and humanitarian support in Ukraine. These supplies will be sent by air freight shipment this week. Please see the flyer below for more details. Donations should be dropped off at 26 Fells Road, Wellesley, MA by 6 pm tomorrow (Tuesday, March 8).

WHS 2:00 Jazz Band Earns GOLD MEDAL at MAJE Festival
|
|
The Wellesley Public Schools Performing Arts Department is excited to announce that the WHS 2:00 Jazz Band earned a Gold Medal at the District Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators Festival at Reading Memorial High School last Tuesday evening. These students have prepared for several months to participate in the annual festival which was held again after a 2-year hiatus.
In addition to the entire Jazz Band receiving a Gold Medal, soloists Victor (Nick) Nicolazzo, Teddy de Peyster and Max Goldenson earned Outstanding Musicianship Awards as well.
Congratulations to Mr. Steve Scott, the WHS Jazz Band Director and our WHS Jazz Band students!
The Jazz Band will now go on to the MAJE State Finals at Norwood High School on Saturday, March 26th.

Thursday - Saturday, March 17 - 19, Wellesley Middle School Drama is proud to present its winter musical, Frozen, Jr.! Featuring two casts of over 100 students, this hit show about the power of self-acceptance and love will be sure to warm you up this chilly winter! All four performances will be held in the WMS auditorium. Information about performance dates/times and ticket sales can be found here. Refreshments, roses and treats for the cast and crew will be sold at the performances!

The WHS Nursing Office still needs your help! Use this link to sign up to bring in a box (or two!) of snacks during the weeks of March 21 and March 28 so the Nursing Office may continue to offer snacks to students who visit the office during the school day.
Suggestions include granola bars, pretzels, gluten-free snacks, goldfish and crackers. Please put donations in the collection bin labeled "Nursing Office Donations" in the front vestibule at the high school next to the bookshelf.

The Resilience Project's Building Resilience Series:
Round Table on Pediatric Mental Health in the Time of Covid-19

Join Newton Wellesley Hospital's The Resilience Project on Wednesday, March 9 from 7:00 - 8:15 pm for an important round table discussion and Q&A on the current pediatric mental health crisis. Learn about real and anticipated negative impacts on our youth, what local clinicians, schools, and parents are seeing in our communities, and what caring adults can do to support kids and teens.
Event will include brief presentations from our speakers: Mark Blumenthal, MD, Interim Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Newton-Wellesley Hospital; Liz Booma, MD, Chief, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Newton-Wellesley Hospital; Amy Chiaravalloti, MEd, Educator, Waltham Public Schools; Art Fergusson, PhD, MEd, Psychologist, Newton Public Schools, Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A facilitated by Juliana Chen, MD and Tai Katzenstein, PhD, Co-directors, The Resilience Project’s Parents & Caregivers Program.
