I feel that summer is a wonderful time of the year. It is a season of picnics, family gatherings and travel. It is also a time of rest. I enjoy spending time around water. Being near a lake, river, or ocean offers me an opportunity to appreciate God’s beautiful creation. I also enjoy re-connecting with family and friends outdoors. It also usually includes food!
Combining these, like being outside…. near water… with family and friends…and sharing a meal… now that is a memory-making experience - one that we need to appreciate and thank God for. As we begin August, I want to remind you to take the time to do whatever refreshes and renews you. For me, these special summertime activities are important. I am also looking to our WHYF Anniversary Open House on Thursday, August 24th. Please join us for this very special event. Keep your Catholic Radio station in your prayers. Thank you.

Update from Russ Fry
WHYF Community Relations Coordinator
Rfry@720whyf.com
I hope that everyone had a great July and celebrated the 4th safely. The summer doldrums, with lots of humidity and heat, are now here for August.
Our big event for August is the anniversary of Holy Family Radio going on the air 12 years ago. We are going to have an open house on Thursday, August 24th to celebrate. Drop by and have a hot dog and a cold iced tea. We will be celebrating from 11 am to 7 pm. We hope to see a lot of our supporters.
The other exciting thing happening on Holy Family Radio is the addition of weather forecasts. We thank Wilhelm’s Hardware in Hershey for sponsoring our launch of the weather broadcasts. Please be sure to stop at their family-owned store and tell them thanks, too!
Have a safe August and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner
Father Timothy Sahd
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
For whatever reason, when the summer rolls around, I have a nightly urge to get ice cream. It's not that way in the winter (and it's not because it's cold, because it's always good to eat ice cream), but there's just something about the summer that makes me want to dive into a vat of chocolate ice cream. I really need it!
Wouldn't it be great if we always had a desire to receive the Bread of Life - the Holy Eucharist - in the same way? I mean, that we really felt it, like we have an urge for French fries or soda or coffee or ice cream. Wouldn't it be so wonderful that we would FEEL the need to receive Him at all times, so much so that we'd run (even if we couldn't run!) to Mass to receive His Life?
The fact of the matter is that we always yearn for Him, but many times we mistake our yearning for Him with other things - things that are earthly and less fulfilling - like ice cream. They somewhat fill a need temporarily, but then give us nothing. They are empty. Only when we fill ourselves with what we truly long for - Jesus' Body and Blood - do we truly feel full and enlivened! God bless you!
Fr. Sahd

From the WHYF Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of Holy Family Radio want to thank all our generous supporters as we mark our twelfth year of bringing the Word of God, seven days a week, to the people of our Diocese. On Friday, August 25, we will celebrate the day, 12 years ago, when we first heard, on air, “this is Holy Family Radio.”
The dream of a Catholic radio station became a reality on May 25, 2001 when we held our first gathering to share this idea. The people were excited about the idea and many of them decided to make an investment in their faith and work toward that goal. We had no money and no station but we began our journey. We spent ten years trying to find an available station and raising the one hundred thousand dollars that would be needed as a mortgage down payment.
The investment in our faith was both a struggle and a labor of love but, in 2011 we found a station and had raised the money needed to obtain a mortgage to purchase the station. On May 25, 2011 Holy Family Radio became a reality when the papers were signed.
The work began in earnest to clean, paint, repair and rebuild parts of the station. We were blessed with many volunteers, the Knights of Columbus, and young men from Trinity High School who spent days and months doing the work. It was exactly three months after we bought the station---on August 25, 2011---that we heard on air for the first time “This is Holy Family Radio, WHYF, AM 720, located in Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania.” The dream was now a reality and we have been on the air for 12 years.
The Board would like to express our sincerest thanks to all of you, who over the years have been so faithful in your financial support. You have made an investment in your faith by helping us in our mission of bringing God’s Word to our people. God richly bless you.

Prayer to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist
My Lord Jesus Christ, Your Eucharistic presence teaches me how to love as you have loved me. In your great love for me you continue to give yourself, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in this Sacrament of your love. As I pray here in your Eucharistic presence, enkindle in me the fire of your Gospel. Nourish me with your love and compassion, so that I may be your living presence to all I meet. Amen.

Out with the old.... And in with the new!
Because of your generous support, we were able to replace our very old audio mixing console in our main studio. This upgrade provides us a significant improvement in our operations here at Holy Family Radio. Thank you for your continuing support!

What’s the difference between a Catholic and a Baptist?
If you see your Catholic friend at the liquor store, he’ll say ‘hello.’
After explaining the commandment to honor your father and mother, a Sunday School teacher asked her class if there was a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters.
One boy, the oldest in his family, immediately answered, “Thou shalt not kill.”

Prayer for Holy Family Radio
Gracious and loving Father,
your Son, the Incarnate Word,
gave us the joy and the duty
of proclaiming the Gospel
to all who will listen.
Bless Holy Family Radio in its apostolate
of announcing the Good News.
Strengthen them for the work
of making the truths of our faith
more fully known and more faithfully lived.
Through its programs,
may Your Saving
Word enter the minds and hearts of listeners
and produce an abundant harvest for Your Kingdom.
We pray this through Christ our Lord
Amen.
Bishop Ronald W. Gainer, Bishop Emeritus of Harrisburg

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
