Station Manager's Message
It is hard to believe that August is here. Summer is my favorite season. I am one of those crazy people who enjoy hot weather!
As a child, I looked forward to August because my birthday is the 29th. I also looked forward to getting back to school. Many of my memories from my Boy Scout days also come to mind. I also remember going to Mass in the middle of the week in August. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is August 15. I remember as a young kid thinking that this was because we "assumed" Mary went to heaven. Thank goodness, my CCD teachers and parents eventually cleared up this misconception!
I am looking forward to a great August. This August, I plan to take time to smell the flowers and soak up as much sunshine as possible. I hope you take time to enjoy whatever season you love the the most.
As I begin my second year as station manager, I am reflecting on such a blessing this is to me. After retiring from my teaching career, I really wanted to do something relating to my faith. Being here is such a grace filled experience. Please pray for me and the continued success of Holy Family Radio.
Be sure to join us at the parish summer festivals listed below!

Spiritual Advisor's Corner
Happy August! I'm sorry; I don't know if anyone has ever said that! It's the month we prepare to get back to school or back to our normal routines, and it's also the month that can be the hottest of the year. So what is happy about it?
But as Christians, we are called to live differently. We are called to have joy, even when the rest of the world is angry or is in a constant state of outrage. How can we do that, when the world seems so messed up?
We can live that way because we have our feet firmly planted here, in this crazy world, but also firmly planted in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. This is our joy! We have been given the opportunity to know and live the Truth, even in this maelstrom. The early martyrs, who surely had life tougher than we do today, made this joy apparent, even as they were laying on the ground, seeing eye-to-eye with lions. They were joyful, not because the world made them joyful, but because they knew the Truth and knew they would be admitted, fully, into the Kingdom!
Brothers and sisters, happy August! We can be joyful, knowing that Our Savior loves us and has prepared a place for us. If we live with this joy in our world, perhaps others will see what we are so blessed to see, and desire to seek the Kingdom as well!

“You are listening to Holy Family Radio, WHYF, AM 720, located in Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania.” On the morning of August 25, 2011, our work of evangelization as the only Catholic radio station in the Diocese of Harrisburg began. We purchased the station on May 25, 2011, but because of the many repairs and remodeling that had to be done, it took three months of hard work by volunteers and our angels, the Knights of Columbus, to complete what was required to be a functioning Catholic radio station.
On August 25, Holy Family Radio marks its tenth anniversary of bringing the Word of God to the people of our area. Because we are totally listener supported, we are eternally grateful to you, our many listeners and supporters, for your encouragement and financial assistance throughout these ten years. You have been part of our evangelization efforts with your donations.
As we celebrate this special occasion, we look to our listeners and ask for a special gift of support. We are asking each of you to talk to ten people who have not listened to the station, and ask them to tune in on-air, on line and on their smartphones and listen to the wonderful programs that they have been missing by not listening to WHYF, AM 720. By encouraging them to do this, you will become an evangelist continuing to do the work that Jesus began while on earth.
As we celebrate this special day we thank two special Knights, Joe Murphy and Joe Nebistinsky, for ten years of work for the station. Joe Murphy has been a faithful volunteer from day one, and now continues his volunteer work as the host of “Knight Talk” and as our Senior Producer/Operations/On Air host. Joe Nebistinsky also joined Joe in ten years of volunteer work, helping with the initial early hard work and has now become our faithful and hardworking station manager.
We have much to thank God for as we celebrate this special anniversary day. To our many volunteers who have given thousands of hours of service over the years, thank you and God bless you for your dedicated work. A very special thank you to our Bishop, Bishop Ronald W. Gainer, for his blessings and encouragement of the work of Holy Family Radio. Thank you to those who faithfully supported and encouraged us during some trying times. And finally, thank you, and may God richly bless each and every one of you for your continued listening and financial support of Holy Family Radio.
A wish that the Polish people cry out on such a happy occasion is “Sto Lat” which means “a hundred more years.” And so on this happy day we wish Holy Family Radio “STO LAT.”

Happy First Anniversary to Joe Nebistinsky
It doesn’t seem possible that a full year has gone by since we welcomed Joe Nebistinsky as our new and hardworking station manager. On August 1 Joe will celebrate his first anniversary in this position. Joe has initiated many new ideas for the station and you are reading one of them right now. We have always wanted a monthly newsletter but this wish never came true until Joe joined us and made this Newsletter a reality. This has been just one of his many accomplishments since joining the station as a staff member.
When we realized that Covid 19 would not allow us to have our yearly benefit dinner for a second year in a row, Joe headed up our fund raising efforts with his work on Faith Renewed and our On Line Silent Auction. It was a different experience for all of us as we sat in front of our computers instead of at a dining table but we did benefit from this effort. Now Joe is looking to our presence at Church summer festivals and many new efforts and ideas for the Fall.
We are grateful to Joe for all that he has done to help us change some things that we do and for his future plans to improve our work. On this happy occasion we say to Joe, “STO LAT.”

A priest was giving a lesson on the 23rd Psalm to a group of children. He noticed the little Johnny seemed upset by the verse, "Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life."
"What's wrong, Johnny?" the priest asked.
"Well, replied little Johnny, "I'm not worried about goodness and mercy, but I'm not sure I'd like Shirley following me around all the time."
