We celebrate the Queenship of Mary on August 22nd. I must admit that I was not too familiar with this feast. It was Pope Pius XII who established this feast in 1954 (only a few years before I was born). It is not, however, a new idea. In the fourth century, Saint Ephrem called Mary “Lady” and “Queen.” Later Church fathers and doctors continued to use the title. Hymns of the 11th to 13th centuries address Mary as queen: “Hail, Holy Queen,” “Hail, Queen of Heaven,” “Queen of Heaven.” The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption, and is celebrated on the octave day of that feast. In his 1954 encyclical To the Queen of Heaven, Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title because she is the Mother of God, because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her preeminent perfection, and because of her intercessory power. I know most of us think of the Assumption of Mary on August 15th, but this year, don't forget to celebrate Our Lady's Queenship on August 22nd. Please ask her to intercede for Holy Family Radio.

Here is a special prayer submitted by one of our volunteers-
God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
"When it rains, it pours." That has never been truer than this summer. It has just poured most days, and it's getting old!
This is an inconvenience, mostly, to us, but to farmers, this is a huge problem. Too much rain is a disaster for crops. But so is too little rain. I was talking with a farmer recently, and he was telling me that he can't bear to watch the storms roll in, because he wonders how badly it will damage his crops.
So far, his corn is doing ok, but too much rain will kill it off, and one storm could destroy a whole year's crop.
Can you imagine being so totally helpless when it comes to your livelihood? That is what farmers deal with every day. They plant, they water, they nurture, but are completely dependent on God for everything.
This needs to be our attitude toward life. It is not easy, and it's not what we want. But if we are honest, most things are out of our control. If we lived like farmers, preparing and working hard, but also depending on God for everything, we would be closer to the truth. We NEED Jesus. He is not an add-on to our creativity or genius. He IS everything, and we depend and rely on Him for everything. Let's work hard but depend on God to provide for us, like a good farmer!
God bless you,
Fr. Sahd

A Disciple?
In our newsletters and correspondence, we ask you to become a donor, but what does this mean to you and Holy Family Radio? Well, a donor provides the funds to assist in the station's mission of keeping the station on the air and to bring God's Word to the people of our area. Yes, when you donate to the station, you become a Disciple assisting Holy Family Radio in spreading God's Word. Imagine, you become a Disciple and you don't have to leave the comfort of you home to do this.
There is another advantage to being a donor. We know that the recitation of the Rosary is most pleasing to Mary. Well, each day our donors are blessed by the Recitation of the Rosary, asking Mary to bless those who help to spread Her Son's Word. Yes, Mary is watching over you.
If you are a monthly donor, you have another special blessing. Each morning and evening, the powerful prayers of the Miraculous Medal are offered for you in thanksgiving for your continual support. "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee."
Yes, donating to Holy Family Radio brings you many blessings. You are a Disciple, lovingly remembered by Mary in Her Rosary, and with Special Miraculous Medal prayers for our monthly donors. I don't think that any on-line or TV ad has anything better to offer.
Please support us...

August: The Immaculate Heart of Mary
Major Feast: Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15); Memorial of the Queenship of Mary (August 22)
The heart of Mary is full of love for God, and, because she is sinless, hers is the only human heart capable of loving God the way we were meant to. The image of the Immaculate Heart recognizes Mary's extraordinary holiness and the great love she has for her Son that we are called to imitate.
How to celebrate: Keep the Immaculate Heart close to you by wearing the Miraculous Medal, which has an image of Our Lady’s Heart on the back.
