DECEMBER 2025

Advent is a season of hopeful expectation—a time when the Church invites us to slow down, watch, and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. It is not merely a countdown to Christmas but a spiritual journey of awakening and renewal.

To live Advent well, we might:

  • Set aside moments of silent prayer each day.
  • Light the Advent wreath and reflect on the readings of the season.
  • Perform small acts of charity for those in need.
  • Read and pray with Scripture, especially the prophets and Gospel passages foretelling Christ’s coming.

Advent reminds us that God comes to us—not only in Bethlehem long ago, nor only at the end of time, but today, in the quiet moments of our lives. If we open our hearts in faith and hope, we will find that Christ is already near, whispering peace into the waiting.

We have been so busy here at Holy Family Radio. Our recent move was a massive project. I want to thank all of the volunteers who helped us. We had people moving equipment, cleaning, painting, and running cables for the past few weeks. We are still not finished yet. We still have some "bugs" to work out, but we are pleased with the work that has been completed.

Please remember to send WHYF your "end-of-the-year" gift. We really need your financial support and prayers.

Wishing you a Holy and Joyful Christmas.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A month or so ago, I was in a meeting in the rectory, and all of the sudden, the wind really kicked up. It was so strong, it felt like the roof came off. A statue fell down outside, and stuff was blown everywhere. The airport registered the strongest wind gust at 61 mph!

If stuff isn't anchored down, it will get blown over in a storm. It's a great reminder of the Faith that we must embrace. If our Catholic Faith doesn't anchor us, then we will be blown over by the culture of our time. And that culture is a mix of politics, the trends of the day, and the philosophy and morality of the majority. Our Faith is something different: it is the Word of Jesus. It is His Truth, and His Life.

When we are anchored in Jesus and His Church, the winds of the culture will be scary, and they will do damage, but they won't destroy us. When we do not anchor ourselves in Him, we are completely lost. Holy Family Radio helps us live in our Faith, and allow the culture of our world to be imbued by Jesus. Thank you for your great support of this wonderful ministry!

Scripture of the Month

Luke: 10-12

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

Making the Sign of the Cross Carefully

By Romano Guardini

When we cross ourselves, let it be with a real sign of the cross. Instead of a small, cramped gesture that gives no notion of its meaning, let us make a large, unhurried sign, from forehead to breast, from shoulder to shoulder, consciously feeling how it includes the whole of us, our thoughts, our attitudes, our body and soul, every part of us at once, how it consecrates and sanctifies us…Make a large cross, taking time, thinking what you do. Let it take in your whole being – body, soul, mind, will, thoughts, feelings, your doing and not-doing – and by signing it with the cross strengthen and consecrate the whole in the strength of Christ, in the name of the triune God.

Update from Russ Fry

Good News of great joy – the proclamation to the shepherds in the field. While Holy Family Radio is not an Angel of the Lord, we are doing our best to bring the Good News to Central PA every day! We made great strides this year, upgrading some of our equipment, moving to a vertical tower, and the move of our Broadcast Center to the Trinity High School campus. We could not have done all of that without your support, both financially and spiritually. Please continue to support us with your prayers and bless us with your donations. My Christmas wish is that you have a beautiful Advent and a very Merry and Blessed Christmas. God Bless!

December: The Immaculate Conception

Major Feast: The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8)

The Blessed Mother was called “Full of Grace” by the Angel Gabriel because she was first conceived without sin. As the Church prepares for the coming of Christ on Christmas Day, meditating on the mystery of Mary’s Immaculate Conception can remind us of the saving work Jesus came to do through His Incarnation.

How to celebrate: Go to Confession. This a great way to prepare for Christmas and give you the grace to imitate Mary’s virtues.
