JANUARY 2025

“The saints did not all begin well, but they all ended well.”

Saint John Vianney

As we begin the new year, I am reminded that we can have a new beginning in everything. We need to consider several things:

Start right where you are; embrace the place you are; go from there; reflect on the past; learn from your past successes and failures. Consider that you have friends in high places; the Saints are our heavenly cheerleaders. Trust in the Lord; remember that He is always here for you. Make the new year a new start.

I am praying you'll see the blessings of God's plans unfolding for you in the new year.

Father Timothy Sahd

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I never understood people who would go to Florida during the winter. I would always wonder why someone would leave beautiful PA during the height of an awesome winter season to go to sunny, but far-away Florida.

I'm getting old, because I now understand completely. Winter never bothered me as a kid. I actually liked it. Now I can't stand it. The cold goes right through me! I dream of seeing palm trees in January now! Oh well, I'm pretty sure my vocation won't allow for winters in Sarasota!

Are there other things that bother us now that we are older that didn't when we were younger? Does sin? Do we seek the shelter of the Confessional when we feel the weight of sin, where we once didn't even know what we were doing was sinful? Or has sin dulled us into non-concern? If so, we are lost.

Our Savior came to conquer sin and give us His Divine Life, and He came for no other reason. If we don't join Him to our sinfulness in the Sacrament of Confession, we are not taking advantage of what He desired to give us. I pray we feel the sting of sin when we commit it, so that we may feel the even greater power of His Mercy! God bless you,

Fr. Sahd

"Simple Yes" Update

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of the listeners, volunteers and supporters of WHYF! Thank you for welcoming our show, Simple Yes, so warmly this past year.

In our first episode of the New Year, we talk about the idea of resolutions vs. revelations. Instead of resolving to do the things we’ve perhaps avoided or put off, like finally finishing the basement or eating less sugar, what if we simply say, “Lord, please reveal to me what you’d like me to see or open my heart to this year.”

So much of what we hear through the media is about taking control and planning for success. Self-help gurus and New Year's Challenges will make you “the best you yet"! What’s missing in all of that is the commitment to being open to and embracing God’s will for us.

Just like deciding exactly where to put the TV in that newly-furnished basement space, God has a plan for each of us. In order to discern His will, we first need to be open to listening. This can mean spending time in prayer and reflection, and just being attentive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. How is He guiding our thoughts? Our feelings? Even our moments of inspiration?

As you consider how to hand over the reigns on what 2025 may have in store for you, consider a few of the simple ways you can invite the Lord to speak to you:

  1. Prioritize prayer: Make time for daily prayer, both personal and communal.
  2. Read Scripture: The Bible is God's Word, and it can offer guidance and wisdom.
  3. Seek spiritual direction: A spiritual director can provide valuable insights and support.
  4. Trust in God's providence: Have faith that God will provide for your needs.
  5. Be open to change: God may call you to unexpected paths.

Whatever it is He has in store for you, we are praying that you have a joyful, healthy New Year. Be blessed!

Scripture of the Month

Matthew 2: 1-2,11

After Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in Judea during the reign of King Herod, suddenly some wise men came to Jerusalem from the east asking, 'Where is the infant king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose and have come to do him homage.... and going into the house they saw the Child with his mother Mary, and falling to their knees they did Him homage. Then opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Update from Russ Fry

Happy New Year! We at Holy Family Radio are looking forward to an exciting year! It will be hard to top 2024 though! We visited lots of Women’s and Senior Conferences, made the rounds of some of our Knights of Columbus friends, Columbiettes and the Catholic War Veterans' Post 707 in Hershey. We added the Smart Seniors, Money in Mission and Simple Yes shows. Add in Behold and Believe and Cursillo Corner to get a wide range of new local shows to listen to on our station. It is also important for us to acknowledge our Business Supporters. We appreciate them very much and hope that you will patronize them. A full list can be found at the link below. Thank you all for your support over the past year. We hope that you will continue supporting us in 2025. God Bless and have a great new year!

January: The Holy Name of Jesus

Major Feast: Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus (January 3)

We kick off the year by remembering the “...name that is above every name” (Phillipians 2:9). The Holy Name of Jesus contains immense power and majesty.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “The name ‘Jesus’ contains all: God and man and the whole economy of creation and salvation. To pray ‘Jesus’ is to invoke Him and to call Him within us. His name is the only one that contains the presence it signifies. Jesus is the Risen One, and whoever invokes the name of Jesus is welcoming the Son of God who loved Him and who gave himself up for Him.”

How to celebrate: Pray the Jesus Prayer or make reparations for the sins against the Holy Name of Jesus by praying the Divine Praises every day this month.
