June 2023
I was recently going through some of my dad's belongings. He passed away a year and a half ago. I'm still going through some of his stuff. I came across a card with a sketch of "Saint Stanislaus Church" (named for a great Polish Saint) in Minersville, Schuylkill County. This is a special church for me because my parents were married there, and I was baptized there. It's a beautiful church. My dad was proud of his Polish family roots. His entire family held onto many of their Polish traditions, with many of them related to our Faith and the Church. My last visit there was for a wedding about 25 years ago. Because of many church consolidations, it is now part of a parish named "Holy Family Parish of Minersville". I plan to visit the Church on my next trip to Schuylkill County. I am looking forward to attending Mass there. I feel blessed to be reminded of this beautiful church.

As the summertime begins, many of us get to travel. I always enjoy going to different churches when I'm out of town. I encourage you to visit a church that might be significant to you. Our Church has so many riches and these Holy Places should not be overlooked. Sometimes we forget about what we have. Reflect on the history and heritage that it holds for you…..While you're there, remember to pray for Holy Family Radio!

I hope that everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I also hope that everyone took a few moments to reflect upon the sacrifices that our brave men and women gave for our Country. As the saying goes – “Lest we Forget”!
Well, another event filled month has come and gone. More Knights of Columbus Councils were visited in May, a Woman’s Conference, and a 50+ Conference were attended and another to come in June! We held our month-long Spring Pledge Drive in May and we are very appreciative of all our listeners that donated to Holy Family Radio. Without your support, we would not be able to continue bringing the Word of God to the Central PA region. If you have not yet given, it is not too late. Please go to 720whyf.com and click on the “Donate” button.
May God bless all the fathers on the upcoming Father’s Day. And please pause for a few moments on Flag Day, June 14th, to pray for our country in these difficult times. God Bless!

When we were growing up, we went to the neighborhood pool every day in the summer. But there was one problem: it was fed by a spring, and was freezing cold. Especially on really hot days, it was a shock to jump into the pool and swim! It took a lot of courage to finally jump in, even if you were sweating from the heat!

For us, as Catholics, when we live our faith, it's kind of like being shocked when we jump into the water. We live in a culture that can be so shockingly contrary to our Catholic faith, and so when we jump into our Faith, it can feel like a shock to the system. We can even fight against what the Church teaches on human sexuality, on the dignity of the person, from the womb, to the immigrant, to the imprisoned, to the tomb. Our culture has trained us to see one way, and our Faith teaches us to live completely different.

It takes a lot of courage to jump into the water of our Catholic Faith. But there was one thing I remember when I went swimming. Once I was in the pool for awhile, I didn't want to get out. The same is true with our Faith. When we live a life with Christ, why would we ever want to live the life that our culture gives us? Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of Everlasting Life!

Where Did Devotion to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus Come From?
Prayer to the Sacred Heart

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing,
I adore you, I love you and with a lively sorrow for my sins.

I offer you this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to your will.

Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.
Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessings on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.

Within your heart I place my every care.

In every need let me come to you with humble trust saying, Heart of Jesus, help me.
Amen.

In 1856, the Feast of the Sacred Heart became a universal feast. St. John Paul II, a great devotee of the Sacred Heart, said, “This feast reminds us of the mystery of the love of God for the people of all times.” In 2023, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 16.

June is the month of the Sacred Heart. A devotion long practiced privately, it was officially approved in the 1800s. Devotion the Sacred Heart encourages participation in Holy Hour Eucharistic Adoration and to receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of every month.

"Behold, today, another true sign of God's favor is presented to our gaze, namely, the Sacred Heart of Jesus...shining forth with a wondrous splendor from amidst flames. In it must all our hopes be placed; from it salvation is to be sought and hoped for." (Pope Leo XIII)
This Month's Laughs
The 98 year old Mother Superior from Ireland was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable. They gave her some warm milk to drink but she refused. Then one of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen. Remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened and poured a generous amount into the warm milk. Back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more and before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop. "Mother," the nuns asked with earnest, "please give us some wisdom before you die."

She raised herself up in bed and with a pious look on her face said, "Don't sell that cow.
