May 2022
This has been a busy time at Holy Family Radio! The Board, Staff and Volunteers have been working to prepare for the Benefit Dinner and the upcoming Online Auction. (In addition, we had to replace one of our computers and power conditioner, causing an unexpected expense and stress.) I enjoy being busy and even some stress, but not too much! Sometimes we feel unprepared and inadequate for the tasks at hand so we need to be reminded that "God does not call the equipped, but He equips the called." Maybe He is calling you to do something. He might be calling you to do something for Holy Family Radio. Remember what the Lord said - "Be not afraid!" Please keep Holy Family Radio in your prayers.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner

Did you ever say to yourself, "If there were only more hours in the day!" I know I have. I sometimes wish we had more time to complete the stuff I should've gotten done.

Well, Easter is that one time when we can get "more hours in the day"! Easter itself, in our Church, lasts 8 days, because it's just not possible to cram every good thing from the Resurrection of Our Lord into just one day. The Gospels for each of those days recounts the stories of that ONE day. So much to tell, so little room and time to tell it! And the Easter season as a whole is longer than Lent, believe it or not, a season in itself that feels way too long, doesn't it? How does one make those sacrifices for 40 days?

The Easter Season is a time to live the excitement of the Resurrection Event. Lent is a time of preparation, prayer and almsgiving, as well as penance and confession. These things can all be done in Easter as well, but the focus is to breathe with the Church during these times, and to feel the celebration and joy that is the result of Jesus' miraculous Resurrection. When we live with the seasons of the Church, we experience what it must've meant to walk with Jesus on his way, and with His Apostles.

So, let's take this time to walk with the Apostles as we hear their excitement and their zeal in the Acts of the Apostles. This excitement didn't just come about from nothing: it came from their witnessing Jesus' death and His resurrection! If we desire their joy and zeal, let's breathe with the Church during these 50 days, and feel that excitement as well. God bless you!

Update from Russ Fry
WHYF Community Relations Coordinator

May and the flowers are blooming. We certainly had plenty of April showers to do the job! Another short month and we’ll be into summer vacations, pool season and warm summer nights. Before we get there, however, we have a very important week during May. We will be having our spring online auction May 13 to the 21. This year promises to be a lot of fun. We have plenty of great things to bid on. Look for a nice selection of restaurant offerings, a variety of home goods and a basket or two. Bid increments will be much more attractive at only a dollar at a time. With that small increment, check back often to make sure you get your bids in. We are still accepting auction items. If you have something to donate, please give the station a call. And don’t forget to patronize the merchants that donated to our Auction. Please support them as they have supported us. Have fun and good luck in the Auction!

Summer Church Festivals
Last year WHYF was able to attend several Summer Church Festivals. We look forward to participating again this year. This is where we need your help. We are looking for some volunteers to attend these festivals with us. WHYF needs people to give out information about us. It is fun and easy to do. We need to have at least two people at a time. Attending these festivals is an enjoyable way to help spread the news about WHYF. Please consider volunteering to spend a few hours with us at one of these great events. We will post the dates, times and locations as they become available.

May

The month of May is devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary

In his 1965 EncyclicalMense MaioPope Paul VI identified the month of May as an opportune time to incorporate special prayers for peace into traditional May devotions.
There is no firm structure as to the content of a May devotion. It usually includes the singing of Marian anthems, readings from Scriptures and a sermon. Many Catholics offer to Mary pilgrimages, visits to churches dedicated to her, little sacrifices in her honor, periods of study, well-finished work and a more attentive recitation of the Rosary.

The last devotion on May 31 is often followed by a solemn procession, during which a statue or portrait of the Virgin Mary is carried back into the church. Some May devotions may take place outside or in a dedicated special place.
Now you can listen to our local programs as podcasts on our YouTube channel. Go to YouTube and search for Holy Family Radio.
Joke of the Month
A pastor wasn't feeling well during Mass, so he leaned over to the Deacon at the last minute and asked him to preach the Homily. As he began his homily, the Deacon said, "You know, a substitute preacher like me is like a piece of cardboard in a broken window. It fills the space, but he's not the real glass." After Mass, a parishioner came up to the deacon and tried to give him a compliment. “You weren't a replacement at all, Deacon," she said, “you were a real pane.”
