September brings us a change of seasons. The heat of summer gives way to cooler mornings and the evenings come earlier as the days shorten. For many of us, it means time to get back on a schedule and put away our "lazy summer" mindset. I think of this time of year as a "pre-Advent time. It gives me time to re-focus after a more relaxed summer season. Many parishes become "re-activated" in September with the start of many new educational, spiritual and social opportunities. I encourage you to "re-activate" this month and take this time to become engaged in your parish. We also have an active autumn planned here at WHYF. Update from Russ Fry We had a successful Open House a week ago and welcomed quite a few of our listeners to the studio. It was great fun visiting with them and eating lots of hot dogs. We are continuing to visit Knights of Columbus Councils throughout Central PA. We will be at a Women’s Expo and two 50+ Expos in the coming weeks. We could not accomplish all those tasks without strong support from our volunteers and we are very thankful for them. We are always on the lookout for additional volunteers, so if you have some spare time, even if only a couple hours a month, we would welcome your help.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner Father Timothy Sahd Dear Brothers and Sisters, Isn't it funny how EVERYONE knows the weather forecast for the day, especially if it's going to be bad? Just a few weeks ago, there was a day where everyone was predicting storms that could produce hail and tornadoes. That day, so many people came up to me and told me to be safe; to watch out; to stay inside; Tto make precautions. I saw a lot of businesses close for that afternoon and evening. I heard that Hersheypark even closed early! The storms weren't terrible here, but there were a lot of downed trees and branches. They were worse in other states, though. It's good to take reasonable precautions. But why is it that when Jesus tells us about upcoming dangers, we don't listen? How is it that when He tells us to avoid certain behaviors, or to prepare for His Kingdom, that we don't really bat an eye? "Oh well," we think, "I'll do that another time. I have plenty of time." That is so dangerous! If only we took His words as seriously as we took a meteorologist's words (who is right less than half of the time)! Why is weather more real to us than Jesus' Kingdom? Holy Family Radio is a great resource that reminds us of Jesus' Teachings, and prepares us for His Kingdom. Thank you so much for your support of our station. Now, let's heed His Words! Fr. Sahd

Update from Maria Gallagher, PA Pro-Life Federation Thousands of pregnant women throughout Pennsylvania could lose the vital services they need if Governor Josh Shapiro goes ahead with his plan to rescind the contract of Real Alternatives. Real Alternatives runs Pennsylvania’s award-winning Pregnancy and Parenting Support Services Program. The program funds pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes and adoption agencies across the Commonwealth. Nearly 350,000 women have been served by the program, which has become a model for the rest of the nation.   Action Item: Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and let them know that you stand with pregnant women and want Real Alternatives’ contract renewed. Thank you for making these critical calls and sending these important emails! Use the link below.

September Devotion The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, whose Memorial the Church celebrates on September 15. Devotion to the Sorrows of the Virgin Mary dates from the 12th century, when it made its appearance in monastic circles under the influence of St. Anselm and St. Bernard.

Prayer to Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ: by the overwhelming grief you experienced when you witnessed the martyrdom, the crucifixion, and the death of your Divine Son, look upon me with eyes of compassion and awaken in my heart a tender commiseration for those sufferings, as well as a sincere detestation of my sins, in order that, being disengaged from all undue affections for the passing joys of this earth, I may long for the eternal Jerusalem, and that henceforth all my thoughts and all my actions may be directed toward this one most desirable object. Our staff and volunteers created a list of the things we were able to do since last August thanks to your prayers and financial support: • We held two successful pledge drives.   • We participated in the 50-Plus Expos in Lancaster, York and Carlisle.   • We covered the Pennsylvania Pro-Life March in Harrisburg in collaboration with Holy Spirit Radio WISP 1570 AM.   • We promoted and participated in the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation Dinner.   • We participated in the Diocesan Men's and Women's Conferences.   • We participated in the Women's Expos in Lancaster and Carlisle.   • We were the featured community organization at a Harrisburg Senators baseball game.   • We attended and covered several press conferences at the Diocese.   • We held an Holiday Open House in December.   • We promoted and covered the traveling 911 Memorial Event at Trinity High School.   • We participated in several EWTN webinars.   • We participated in several West Shore Chamber of Commerce events.   • We covered the Bishop Senior Installation Mass.   • We held a successful Fundraising Dinner in the Spring.   • We supported and promoted fundraising for the Shiremanstown Fire Department.   • We produced and aired dozens of promos for liturgical and social events for diocesan churches and church organizations.    • We covered the Morning Star ultrasound machines blessing by Bishop Gainer.   • We collaborated with the Legion of Mary at Mechanicsburg’s Jubilee Day and the York Fair.   • We added a new local program – CATHOLIC FOCUS to our schedule.   • We added the Catholic Challenge program from the Living Bread Radio Network.   • We added new Business Supporters for WHYF.   • We updated our “On-Air Studio” with a new state-of-the-art audio mixing console, thanks to our listeners' generous support.   • We increased the number of listeners using our mobile app and receiving our Monthly Newsletter, WHYF MATTERS.   • We joined the Faithful Give Campaign for fundraising.   • We visited over a dozen Knights of Columbus councils promoting WHYF and KNIGHT TALK.

May the brilliant colors of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation. May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life. May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others. May the dying of summer's spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever.

A Prayer for Good Humor by Dr. Bill Thierfelder, President of Belmont Abbey College Grant me, O Lord, good digestion, and also something to digest. Grant me a healthy body, and the necessary good humor to maintain it. Grant me a simple soul that knows to treasure all that is good and that doesn’t frighten easily at the sight of evil, but rather finds the means to put things back in their place. Give me a soul that knows not boredom, grumblings, sighs and laments, nor excess of stress, because of that obstructing thing called “I.” Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humor. Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others.

Church Bulletin Bloopers Due to the Rector’s illness, Wednesday’s healing services will be discontinued until further notice. The pastor will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing, “Break Forth Into Joy.” Barbara remains in the hospital and needs blood donors for more transfusions. She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Father Nelson’s homilies. Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person(s) you want remembered. The message this morning: Jesus Walks on the Water. The sermon tonight: Searching for Jesus. During the absence of our pastor, we enjoyed the rare privilege of hearing a good homily when Father Stubbs spoke. Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It is a good chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

Prayer for Holy Family Radio Gracious and loving Father, your Son, the Incarnate Word, gave us the joy and the duty of proclaiming the Gospel to all who will listen. Bless Holy Family Radio in its apostolate  of announcing the Good News. Strengthen them for the work of making the truths of our faith more fully known and more faithfully lived.  Through its programs, may Your Saving Word enter the minds and hearts of listeners and produce an abundant harvest for Your Kingdom.  We pray this through Christ our Lord  Amen.
