Greetings from the CCC Program! 

Dear WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Partner,


Happy New Year!  This month's newsletter is full of important updates as  2016 is already off to a busy start. 

 

The WI CCC Program is excited to announce the 2016 WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar Series which will offer partners an opportunity to learn more about WI CCC Plan Priorities and how to take action. The first webinar, featuring Priority 4 "Increase HPV vaccine completion," will be held on February 9th from 3-4 PM. Be sure to mark your calendars!

 

Additionally, the WI CCC Program will solicit applications from partners for the 2016 CCC Implementation Grants to support implementation efforts within Priority 9 of the WI CCC Plan, "Increase Access to Quality Cancer Care." 
 

Throughout the year, the WI CCC Program team will also work with a small group of dedicated WI Cancer Council leaders on the 2016 WI Cancer Council Revitalization Process. The goal of this process is to identify ways to better engage partners to implement a statewide approach to cancer control.

2016 WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar Series
Throughout 2016 the WI CCC Program will offer a webinar series for partners and WI Cancer Council members. The webinars will offer participants the opportunity to learn more about Priorities within the WI CCC Plan 2015-2020. The webinars will be held bi-monthly in 2016 on the 2 nd  Tuesday from 3 - 4 PM. The first webinar will be held on February 9, 2016 and will feature Priority 4 "Increase HPV vaccine completion." 2016 CCC Implementation Grants to Increase Access to Quality Cancer Care
The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program will be soliciting "CCC Implementation Grants to Increase Access to Quality Cancer Care" proposals that support the implementation of Priority 9, "Increase Access to Quality Cancer Care and Services", in the WI CCC Plan 2015-2020.  The intent of this round of CCC Implementation Grants is to fund local projects that address access to quality cancer care efforts in Wisconsin, linking directly to strategies in Priority 9 in the WI CCC Plan 2015-2020.  The projects will be implemented from July 2016 -December 2017.  Read more »
2016 WI Cancer Council Revitalization
During the WI Cancer Council  Annual Meeting  in October 2015, WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Program staff shared an overview of the  WI Cancer Council Revitalization process , to take place throughout 2016. With the recent release of the  WI CCC Plan 2015-2020 , the WI CCC Program and WI Cancer Council believe now is the right time to better engage diverse partners to implement and promote a statewide comprehensive approach to cancer control. To provide guidance in these efforts, the WI CCC Program has formed a Leadership Team of diverse partners to meet throughout 2016. In the second half of 2016, Regional Meetings will take place throughout the state to showcase the revitalized WI Cancer Council and serve as a point of contact to initiate membership renewal.  Read more »
Cervical Cancer Awareness Month & WI HPV Vaccination Efforts
In 2015, national data indicates an estimated 13,000 women were diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer and about 4,000 will die from the disease. However, cervical cancer is highly preventable and treatable thanks to improved screening and HPV vaccination.  Cervical Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about how women can protect themselves from HPV and cervical cancer. The WI CCC Program is working with its partners to implement the  WI CCC Plan's Priority 4, "Increase HPV vaccine completion. Read more »
FDA Proposes New Indoor Tanning Rule for Teens and Children
The Food and Drug Administration proposed new rules that would prohibit use of indoor tanning devices for those under the age of 18. The proposed rule would also require indoor tanning facilities to inform adult users about the health risks of indoor tanning and to obtain a signed risk acknowledgment from these users. The use of indoor tanning devices is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer.
WI Collaborative for Healthcare Quality Updates for Cancer Control Partners
WCHQ and its Colorectal Cancer Screening Quality Improvement Steering Team recently released the  Toolkit for Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates . The toolkit provides evidence-based strategies for healthcare provider organizations to increase colorectal cancer screening rates and provides a variety of resources to support these strategies. NCI "Did You Know" Video Series
The Did You Know? Video Series from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) provides 2- to 3-minute informational videos on various cancer topics. The videos communicate key statistical data on different types of cancers to a lay audience in understandable, clear, and concise language. Each video also provides background information on cancer types and risk factors, and encourages action when appropriate. The video series can be accessed on NCI's YouTube page at  www.youtube.com/NCIgov  or at  http://seer.cancer.gov/statistics/videos .
