Breakout Swimmer of the Year Nomination
The past few years at the annual spring banquet Wisconsin Swimming has presented a special award called Short Course Breakout Swimmer of the Year.

This year we will again honor a swimmer of each gender with the Short Course Breakout Swimmer of the Year.

Swimmers eligible for the award must be aged between 15-18 years of age.

They are nominated by their athlete peers or WI Swimming coaches that have taken notice.

This award has the spirit to highlight athletes that have made large steps and found success later in their relative swimming life.

Think of individuals that have shown great improvement during this short course season. Some credentials to consider may be first time State or National meet qualifiers after swimming several seasons before reaching such a benchmark. Those nominations are not limited to the examples provided as they are just food for thought.

Coaches' Education Update
USA Swimming Coaches and Club Leaders,

As we approach the launch of the new SWIMS database on September 1, we want to share some updates coming to Coach Education.

Based on member feedback, and to improve ease of access, your new USA Swimming account will feature all education and certification requirements in one location. Starting September 1, 2022, your USA Swimming account will give you access to the newly developed Coaching Certification Program. It will replace all current learning sites and platforms, where members have historically completed items including, but not limited to, background checks, Athlete Protection Training, Foundations of Coaching, Safe Sport Club Recognition and CPR/First Aid. The use of a single dashboard will allow members to easily access all educational requirements in one easy-to-find tab.

In addition to shifting all member education to your USA Swimming account, the Foundations of Coaching 101 and 201 courses will be replaced with new, relevant coaching information. By replacing this course, USA Swimming coach members will be able to work towards their development in the Coaching Certification Program, allowing users to start their personalized approach to their specific educational goals. Existing coaches will be required to take the Quality Coaching Framework, while new coaches will be required to take the Starting Block and Core Certification courses.

For new coaches who are still within their first two years of coaching and have not yet started the Foundations of Coaching 101 or 201 courses, we are encouraging you to wait until the new Coaching Certification Program launches September 1, 2022. You will remain a USA Swimming member coach in good standing as long as you complete the new Starting Block course prior to December 31, 2022, as well as the Core Certification course prior to December 31, 2023. For coaches who have started the Foundations of Coaching 201 course, the last day to complete it will be August 31, 2022. All progress will be lost if not completed by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31, 2022. Coaches can take the Core Certification course in the Fall if they prefer to not complete the Foundations of Coaching 201 course before August 31, 2022.

The launch of the new Coaching Certification Program will bring additional exciting changes to membership. Some of these new features include courses available in English and Spanish, educational tracks for both the American Development Model Age Group Certification and Senior Certification as well as a new Children with Challenges course.

For additional questions and concerns, please contact education@usaswimming.org.
