ISA25 Recap: What Did WII Do?

It’s hard to believe that ISA25 is already behind us! Women in Industry showed up in full force and proudly made an impact throughout the entire event! Our fearless leader, Renee Ricciotti of 3M and Chair of Women in Industry, delivered an inspiring presentation to the ISA Board of Directors, spotlighting our current initiatives and 2025 goals which all center on engaging more women to volunteer, participate, and grow as leaders in the industrial supply industry.

Renee also highlighted these initiatives during the ISA Networks Chair Panel session. The key message was that WII created an inclusive community that provides flexibility to its members to join and participate in any capacity they wish. Anyone can attend our virtual networking sessions, and anyone interested in our mentorship program can submit an application request, regardless of their roles or tenure within their organization. WII’s reach goes well beyond ISA's annual conference and fall summit. It is a community that engages and networks throughout the year...

How did you get started in our industry?

I started working for Acklands-Grainger (AGI) in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a Large Account Manager focusing on government and utilities. After two years, I moved into a Business Manager role in National Accounts where I remained for five years. I worked on the Oilsands team and am proud to say that together with an incredible team we opened the first AGI onsite store in Canada at a mine site north of Fort McMurray which is still in operation today.

That's What She Said!

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity”

-Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart, born in Atchison, Kansas, was a pioneering aviator and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932. She continued to break records with solo flights from Hawaii to California and Los Angeles to Mexico City.

Before her aviation fame, she served as a nurse’s aide in WWI and a social worker in Boston. A passionate advocate for women’s rights, she supported the Equal Rights Amendment and was a member of the National Woman’s Party. Her disappearance in 1937 during an attempted flight around the world remains one of aviation’s greatest mysteries. Earhart’s legacy continues to inspire generations with her courage, determination, and trailblazing spirit.

What WII Are Reading

Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success At Work and in Life One Conversation at a Time

by Susan Scott

"What’s surprising is that, though a healthy diet and an exercise regimen are important, the strength of our immune system has more to do with the degree of integrity with which we live our lives." (page 226)

"We may succeed in hearing every word yet miss the message altogether." (page 120)

"Weak leaders want agreement. Strong leaders want the truth." (page 87)

Wow! This is an incredibly impactful and insightful book. The above quotes are just some of the nuggets of wisdom the author shares. Susan Scott combines information and assignments designed to get you to think about your approach not only to work or leadership but also to your personal life. While WII are still digesting all the information that she shares in this book, WII are thinking that it is the type of book WII might just have to read again. Thank you to Kyle Weber, President Global Integrated Supply at Vallen, for this recommendation.

Let us know if you have a book you would like us to review for the next WII newsletter.
