February is here, bringing new momentum, meaningful connections, and plenty of opportunities to grow. As we move further into the year, WILC is excited to continue building community, learning together, and embracing what’s ahead. We’re looking forward to everything this month has in store and can’t wait to keep the energy going with our amazing community.

Donate to Support Our Community

As federal and state budget pressures threaten essential disability services, community support matters more than ever. WILC continues to show up every day, helping people with disabilities navigate housing, healthcare, benefits, and major life transitions. Your donation helps protect access to these critical services and ensures independence, dignity, and choice remain within reach. If you’re able, please consider

supporting WILC today.

New WILC Blog

Access isn’t one size fits all. This February, as we reflect during Black History Month and World Day of Social Justice, we’re exploring how disability, race, income, language, and culture intersect within everyday systems like healthcare, housing, and public benefits.

In our latest blog, we take a closer look at why culturally responsive advocacy matters and how WILC works to meet people where they are. Read more about intersectionality, equity, and what real access should look like for everyone.

Michael's Monthly Fun Fact

Valentine’s Day is the day of bringing people together, so why not bring in a new furry friend to the pack? Many pet shelters are waving their fees to allow people to adopt a pet to their home at lower cost.

Pet adoption agencies and shelters such as ASPCA, Pender County Humane Society, Al-Van Humane Society, Best Friends Animal Society, Lollypop Farm, and for those of us in the Westchester area, the SPCA Westchester or, Happy Life Animal Rescue is recommended to look for adoption events for Valentine’s Day.

Some of these events include special activities and promotions for pet adoption, such as Speed Dating: Big Dog Edition, which includes a waived $150 adoption fee, a dog, bandana, engraved tag, and a gift bag, or doing a Valentine Open House event which includes doing a “blind date” with an adoptable pet, to see if they are a good match for you to bring home with you. These events are open to many different animals, such as dogs and cats, and even birds or lizards!

Your feedback helps us empower individuals with disabilities to lead self-directed lives through advocacy, training, and access to essential resources. Together, let's amplify our impact and support the journey towards independent living.
