June 2022

June marks the beginning of summer and is a month filled with many, many celebrations… graduations, Pride Month, Father’s Day, Juneteenth, and Summer Solstice to name a few. With so much going on, we invite you to take time for self-care, and have a safe and happy summer!

How to Get Help from the

Social Security Administration (SSA)

Nearly two months ago, on April 7, 2022, the Social Security Administration (SSA) resumed in-person service for people with and without an appointment. As they help more people in person, we want to highlight the best ways and times for clients to access their services.

Although online services are encouraged, if you can’t complete your business online, you can call SSA toll-free at 1‑800‑772‑1213. Phone lines are usually less busy before 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time, and later in the week, or later in the month.

While appointments are strongly recommended, they continue to help people without one. An appointment reduces the wait time and ensures that clients know what documents to bring and be helped in one single visit. You will still be assisted if you need to visit your local Social Security office without an appointment.

To learn more about the SSA safety measures and restrictions before visiting their offices, visit How to Get Help from Social Security.

Did You Know?

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Early diagnosis gives people with Alzheimer’s disease the chance to make key decisions about treatment and care. To learn more about the risk factors, warning signs, diagnostic process and resources to combat Alzheimer’s, we recommend reaching out to our Nursing Home Transition and Diversion (NHTD) representative for the lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster): Bianca Prevosto, at BPrevosto@wilc.org or call 8-45-228-7457 ext. 1130 (voice), or 914-259-8036 (VP).

Qualified staff from NY Connects can also help by providing an initial assessment, counseling and assisting with exploring options. They can be reached at 716-373-8032.

  • Adults aged 18-64 with any type of disability, chronic illness/disease, mental or physical health condition are encouraged to complete the survey
  • The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete
  • Responses are anonymous
  • Survey opened May 2, 2022

Go to: https://rockcha.lk/2022NSHD to complete the survey.
