March is here, bringing fresh energy, new opportunities, and continued momentum for the months ahead. As we move further into the year, WILC is excited to keep building community, learning together, and supporting one another along the way. We’re looking forward to everything this month has in store and can’t wait to keep the energy going with

our amazing community.

Rest In Peace, Joe

It is with sad and broken hearts that we share with you the news of Westchester Independent Living Center's founder, Joe Bravo, passing away after a brief period of illness.

Since establishing WILC in 1981, Joe poured his heart and soul into his advocacy for independent living for people with disabilities, empowering them to lead self-directed lives in their communities. We will never truly know the countless lives he has touched through his advocacy, guidance, and mentorship, all done without seeking any glory or recognition for himself.

Joe was one in a million and truly irreplaceable. WILC will honor his memory by continuing his work and following the path he set out for us. We will miss him deeply.

In honor of Joe’s lifelong dedication to the mission of independent living, we invite those who feel moved to support the work he helped build.

For decades, Joe believed deeply that people with disabilities deserve the tools, advocacy, and community needed to live with dignity and independence. That belief continues to guide WILC every day.

If you would like to honor his legacy, please consider making a donation to support the programs and services that remain a lifeline for so many individuals and families in our community.

Michael's Monthly Fun Fact

It is time for March, which not only means daylight saving time is here, but so is the season of flowers to bloom. Springtime will soon be upon us. Now if you are looking for the best places to find your seasonal veggies and fruits, then look no further than your local farms near your area.

Supporting local farms can be a great way to improve your community, as well as boosts the economy by keeping money in the community, provides fresher, more nutrient-dense food, and reduces environmental impact through fewer food miles and less packaging. It also promotes sustainable agriculture, preserves farmland, and strengthens food security by shortening supply chains.

Going to your local farm can also be fun and educational. Many farms open their lands for friends and families to buy from their marketplaces, as well as letting you pick the food yourselves from their fields and offer activities such as tours and petting animals at the farms. If you know a farm near you, why not stop by and see what they can offer you? It will be worth it for some good springtime fun.
