As the month of August comes to a close, we now move on to September. We start off the month with Labor Day. Labor Day is a federal holiday that celebrates the economic and social achievements of workers and employees to recognize their contributions to the nation's strength, prosperity, and well-being. Ultimately, the Labor Day movement is to recognize that workers all be treated for their time working, ensuring they work better hours, have the ability to take off from work, and be fairly compensated for their work.
Many people helped fund this movement, and it was their contributions that brought us to where we are now, ensuring that all workers have the opportunity to work under the proper conditions. What’s also important to remember is that all workers deserve the same treatment as anyone else, as well as those who have disabilities.
The best way for us to celebrate Labor Day is the fact that we get to take a day off following the very first Monday of September. We get to choose how to spend it. Whether it be enjoying time with friends and families, or going out to an event, like a parade, or a festival, or even a barbecue, we get to choose and spend time with one another to remember that it was workers who fought for this to be able to happen in the first place.
