Elections are about candidates as well as results. See below if you or someone you have in mind might want to run in the next elections.
We have the results now, before the end of the year, because this year we decided to move the election cycle up a bit. (The Nominating Committee is also looking at other possible election timing changes.) We had three candidates (unopposed) and two other measures:
Board Positions
Jan Corderman is elected Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair, for the full three-year term, ending January 2029, with 161 yes votes, 2 no, and 4 abstain.
Eileen Kurkoski is elected Membership Committee Chair, for the full three -year term, ending January 2029, with 148 yes votes, 3 no, 4 abstain.
Tina Shelton is elected Program Committee Chair, (second chair position), for one year (completes term), ending January 2027, with 153 yes votes, 1 no, 2 abstain.
Other Measures
Member Referendum to increase dues from $35 per year to $40 per year, effective for any dues payments made on or after January 1, 2026 – passed with 142 yes votes, 4 no, 9 abstain.
Bylaws Amendment on the Requirements for Board Candidacy: As an alternative to the requirement to being an active member of a national-level WILPF US committee for at least twelve months, to being an active member of a branch for at least twelve months – passed with 122 yes votes, 25 no, 34 abstain. (With 181 total valid votes on this measure, it had the highest number of valid votes cast.)
Ballot counting by the Sacramento Branch took place on December 8, and candidates were notified shortly after.
How You Can Qualify for Leadership Opportunities
WILPF US has some exciting changes planned that you may want to be part of! You can take action now to keep your options open, in case you decide you want to be an active part of the future of WILPF. Remember, to qualify for Board membership, a potential candidate must:
- Be a current member of WILPF US
- Have been a member for at least 24 months out of the prior 30 months
-
Have been an active member, for at least twelve months, of a branch OR a national-level WILPF US committee
And if you’re looking to become an active member of a national-level WILPF US committee – let me suggest volunteering for the Nominating Committee! The only requirement is that you be a current member of WILPF US. In addition to managing the elections, we recruit candidates for the National Board positions, which is a great way to learn all about how WILPF operates at the national level. If you are interested, write to nominatingcommittee@wilpfus.org.
Yours for a better world,
Ellen Schwartz,
on behalf of the WILPF US Nominating Committee
