Bits and Pieces
June 24, 2025
| | Oh, my gosh, if you haven’t been in lately or checked our fabrics on our website (www.sunvalleyquilts.com) you should do so!!! As I mentioned before, many manufacturers are using panels for focus fabrics in their collections. Which means, of course, that we are getting over-run with panels along with the coordinating fabrics. The girls at the cut counter have been working, non-stop, cutting, folding and bagging all of the wonderful new panels that are arriving daily. On Wednesday, I unboxed nine boxes of new fabrics while Conni was unboxing even more. And one is prettier or more unique than the next one! The designers, I think, are having a ball creating these panels and the coordinates and new patterns for them. Some of the patterns are even free downloads for you-----if you like the pattern, we have the fabrics to roll out and cut for you! Easy peasy. | | There is a certain uniqueness to many of these that I just adore. Especially for fall and Halloween. The colors are more unique, including greys and blues in the fall categories, and pinky-mauves and greys in the Halloweenie category. Very interesting, I think, and yet not veering too far off the category mark. You just have to check them out. Lots of new “stained glass” types of fabrics with beautiful strong colors like stained glass has, as well as the softer “watercolor” fabrics. In my eyes, it’s a very exciting time for fabrics, both in colors used and designs chosen. Sometimes, when I’m selecting fabrics for the shop, I have to say no because I feel that the ones I’m being shown are just same-old, same-old, remakes of prior designs. But not right now. We just got in some fabulous GNOME fabrics, and they always make me smile or laugh, some very elegant Christmas and Fall fabrics, my eye-catching Highland Cow Christmas (bet you never expected THAT!) which includes a wonderful advent calendar as well as placemats, panels, plaids and more. The back cut table is still stacked high, waiting on the girls to tend to them, and this has been going on for over a week now!!! | | However, Lynn and I leave today for Salt Lake City and BU 2025! We’re allowing extra time so we can also visit Grace Co. on the way to BU, as well as a warehouse trip to nearby Riley Blake Fabrics. BU officially begins on Friday and continues through Monday this year. While we never know exactly what new things we’ll be presented with by BERNINA, there are always new things for us and for you. They are sending out some little tickler/hints to capture our interest, but not enough to have a true idea of the new products. So we have lots of meetings and classes, we never have time to leave the hotel during BU, and we absorb everything we can from BERNINA and all of her “sister companies” like OESD embroidery, DIME, bernette, ISACORD threads, the big 16 needle embroidery machine, LauraStar ironing system, and so much more. We are absolutely pooped when we leave on Tuesday, as you can imagine, for the drive home. | | Which brings me to another big point for you……we have lots of our crew out on vacation or just plain needing a few days off to recoup, so we are going to take advantage of the Fourth of July closing of SVQ, and add a few extra days to regroup! We will be CLOSED July 4, 5, and 6 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). And will be back in the saddle on Monday, July 7, full of new information and ideas for you! So shop early, check out all the new fabrics before the fourth, and then come in Monday to show us all the things you completed over the holiday so we can get pictures posted on Facebook and such! | | While we are traveling, Jan will be teaching Free Standing Houseplants 2.0!!! She has new samples and designs for you to select, or “plant” them all! Northwest Valley Quilters, which meets at SVQ and is gaining new members, is meeting Saturday; each person works on their own projects, we have an advisor, Andi, available to problem solve if needed, and there’s always lots of lively talk and sharing of ideas. Come see what it’s all about, and join the group. On Monday, Joann will be in the classroom teaching “The Diva Wallet”. Choose cork or cotton, fleece or minkee, and get an early start on your handmade gifts. From 9:30 to 3:30, you’ll leave with a finished wallet, and you can “diva it up” as much as you choose! We carry the webbing, strap strips, hardware, zippers, magnets and more for these and byAnnie bags, so take a look. | | A reminder that if you have a new machine purchased with us, we will be having mastery sew classes on July 1 and Mastery embroidery class on July 2. If you purchased your machine with us, and have already taken Mastery, you are still welcome to repeat the class! If you have a new machine, we want you very comfortable when you use it, and we will show you many things that I bet you didn’t know your new BERNINA can do for you. There’s ALWAYS more to learn, right? | | One more thing to note: I’ve talked so much here about the new fabrics that it may have crossed your mind that maybe, just maybe, that meant that we have put lots more fabrics on clearance to make room for the new! If this crossed your mind, you are correct!!! Our clearance section will keep expanding as long as you keep supporting and we keep buying new. It’s all teamwork, you see, like a lovely circle that just keeps turning!!! For our special of the week, let’s make some of this panels move from our shop to your sewing room, at 20% off. This should make us both happy!!! We’ll see you when we get back or at least on July 7 and beyond! To get the 20% off the panels online or in shop, give us the code: 20PANELS. That’s all you have to do! While we’re at BU, probably no newsletter, but expect a lot of pictures from the events!!! And have a happy and safe July 4th!!!!! | | Barbara and crew with all the odd tidbits we shared here | | | | |
