The Alabama 2022 Regular Legislative Session started on Tuesday, Jan. 11th. ALCAP began the day with a prayer gathering on the State House steps. After prayer, several members of Eagle Forum delivered homemade cookies to legislators. Both chambers adjourned shortly after gaveling in for the day. No bills were debated.

On Thursday, EF Executive Director Becky Gerritson spoke at the 11th annual Welcome Back Rally about the Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act and why it needs to be passed this year. Click here to watch her short speech. The entire Welcome Back Rally was live-streamed on our FB page: "Eagle Forum of AL". Once again, both chambers adjourned shortly after gaveling in for the day. No bills were debated.

Next week, the Governor is expected to call a Special Session to address how to spend Covid relief funds. After that special session the Regular Session will resume and we can focus on our priority issues.
EF'S LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

  • Passing the Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act (VCAP)
  • Ensuring state monies don't fund abortions
  • Protecting citizens from divisive Critical Race Theory
  • Protecting citizens from vaccine mandates
  • Ensuring Alabama remains a gambling-free state
  • Repealing or tightening up Alabama's marijuana law
  • Ensuring cell phones are sold with porn filters enabled

More details about these priorities will be coming in the next weeks as legislation begins to move. We will share specifics at that time. Bills relating to other matters that we care about will pop up throughout the session. In those cases, we will keep you posted on our position and ask for your help in contacting your legislators.
