T.E.A.C.H Group
Teens - Educating - Allies - Culturally - Holistically

T.E.A.C.H. is a new group at WMS that stands for Teens, Educating, Allies, Culturally and Holistically. T.E.A.C.H. is intended to provide a safe and supportive space for all students. This group will focus on creating a fun and comfortable environment for students to connect with one another, build friendships and discuss issues they are facing in their everyday lives. Through the presence and actions of T.E.A.C.H, we hope to increase awareness and understanding of diversity among WMS students, and continue building an accepting school community for everyone. Information is available at WMS for students on how to sign up.
Robotics & Dungeons and Dragons Starting
Robotics Club and a Dungeons and Dragons Group will be starting in early February for students after school. Robotics is being run by Mr. Gartmann and will be a VEX based. The VEX program builds into the Whitnall High School Robotics team. Dungeons and Dragons is a card based game for our 'gamers'. Students can sign up with either teacher and information has been put into each grade level Google Classroom to sign up.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent Teacher Conferences are Thursday, February 27 14th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm in our East and West gyms.
Social and Emotional Learning
WMS continues to recognize the importance of social-emotional learning in developing a well-rounded individual. Throughout our social-emotional curriculum, your child will experience skill-building lessons in the four main areas of self-discipline, responsibility, good judgment, and respect for others. In the month of January, lessons are being delivered within ELA and Science classrooms. This month’s lesson content will be related to developing a positive learning community and personal development.

Feel free to invite your child to discuss what they are learning and share your personal experiences of adolescence. Relevant topics to explore with your child include strengths and areas for growth, different ways people define and achieve success, and the positive decisions, values and goals that help people become successful. Have your child share an experience of learning a new skill that was challenging and how they used a growth-mindset to overcome obstacles. This can be an opportunity to relate to your child about you handled change and stressors growing up.

If at any time you feel your family or child could benefit from additional community-based supports, please reference the District Webpage to learn more about the Student and Family Assistance Program.
Career Day
We will be hosting our 2020 Career Day for 8th grade students on Thursday March 12, 2020 from 11:30am - 2:00pm. We are looking for volunteers to speak with our students about their profession. Our goal for the day is for each presenter to facilitate four 30 minute sessions.
