Medical Education at the Capitol

The WY WWAMI Medical Education Program hosted its annual WWAMI Legislative Day for first-year students at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Several UW Family Medicine Residency physicians also participated in the Legislative Day activities, including the WWAMI Legislative Luncheon held at The Met. Helping Wyoming's future doctors learn about the legislative process and how to get involved in advocacy efforts is a WMS favorite event each year!

Thank you, WWAMI, for the wonderful day and to everyone who participated!

WDH UPDATES

H5N1 Avian Influenza

The WDH announced last week that Wyoming's first case of the H5N1 Avian Influenza has been confirmed in Platte County.

“While this is a significant development as bird flu activity is monitored in Wyoming and across the country, it is not something we believe requires a high level of concern among most Wyoming residents,” said Dr. Alexia Harrist, state health officer and state epidemiologist with the Wyoming Department of Health. “We want to remind people there has been no documented human-to-human virus transmission of this virus in the United States so far,” Harrist said. “Our staff has followed up with other people who had contact with the flock and the patient, and will continue working with state and national experts to monitor the situation carefully for Wyoming.”
