STATE UPDATES

eHealth Exchange

The Statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), known as the Wyoming Frontier Information (WYFI) Exchange, is excited to announce our new connection with the eHealth Exchange.

The eHealth Exchange, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is among the oldest and largest health information networks in America and is most well-known as the principal way the federal government shares data between agencies and with the private sector. The eHealth Exchange network, which is working in 75 percent of all U.S. hospitals, is leveraged by more than 30 electronic health record (EHR) technologies and 60 regional or state health information exchanges (HIEs). Five federal agencies (Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, Indian Health Service (IHS), Food and Drug Administration, and Social Security Administration) participate in the network to share patient information with private-sector partners as well as other agencies. The eHealth Exchange supports the secure exchange of patient records for over 250 million patients in the U.S. For more information please visit https://ehealthexchange.org/

WYFI participants may access additional records for patients from the eHealth Exchange when logged into the Community Health Record (CHR) by selecting the "Find External Documents” option within the Documents screen of the patient record. If there are available documents, you will have the option of selecting additional Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs) and may then view the documents.

This additional information will provide a more complete patient record for the WYFI users. We know participating users will find this new option helpful in accessing the complete patient record. Please reach out to the WYFI team at wdh-wyfi-hie@wyo.gov with any questions.

Cannabis: Doctor Be Aware

There are only four FDA-approved cannabis-based medicines that meet the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) standards for efficacy, safety, and quality.

In 2018, FDA approved Epidiolex, a botanically derived cannabidiol (CBD) human drug product. Marinol (1985), Cesamet (1985), and Syndros (2016) are FDA-approved human drug products that are synthetic forms of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9 THC).All other cannabis products, including those sold in state medical and recreational programs, are not reviewed or approved by the FDA. Inconsistent quality control standards in state programs as well as a paucity of robust clinical evidence on the safety and efficacy on non-FDA-approved cannabis products present challenges for physicians and their management of patients’ interest in using cannabis.

Below is a detailed explanation of the current regulatory environment with respect to cannabis in the United States that can serve as a valuable resource for physicians.

It's time to renew your WMS membership

Please renew your WMS membership!

We are grateful for the opportunity to represent the physician voice across Wyoming. This voice is stronger with every member we have, and we hope you'll join us again in 2024 as a member. If there's ever anything we can do to ensure we're representing our membership to the best of our abilities, please contact a member of the WMS Board of Trustees or Executive Director Sheila Bush to share your thoughts. We're here for you!

Wyoming Medical Society dues are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes but may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses, excluding the portion used for association lobbying activities. WMS estimates that 20% of your WMS dues are not deductible because of lobbying activities on behalf of its members.

If you have any questions about the renewal process please email mcowley@wyomed.org or call Maria at 307-635-2424.

2024 Doc/PA of the Day

WMS seeks physician and PA volunteers for the 2024 Legislative Session

The 2024 Legislative Session will convene Monday, February 12, 2024 and will adjourn Friday, March 15, 2024. New for the 2024 Session will be an opportunity to serve as Doc or PA of the Day via Telehealth for anyone unable to make the trip to Cheyenne. Be on the lookout for details to come soon.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
