WYOMING UPDATES

WY Cancer Plan - WDH Needs Your Help

Cancer is the second leading cause of death among Wyomingites. Every person you know has been impacted in some way by this disease whether it be a parent, sibling, child, friend, or work colleague.

What you may not know is that Wyoming is currently ranked last, nationally, for both women who are up to date on cervical cancer screening and women who are up to date on breast cancer screening. We are also one of the bottom-performing states when it comes to colorectal cancer screening rates for adults (Commonwealth Fund 2024 State Scorecard).

While this data may seem daunting, there is something that we can do- together.

The Wyoming Cancer Coalition (WYCC) remains focused on reducing the burden of cancer in Wyoming. To achieve that goal, the coalition relies on individuals and organizations to tackle this important issue.

At this time, the WYCC is in the beginning stages of creating the next iteration of the Wyoming Cancer Plan, and we would like to formally invite a representative from Wyoming Medical Society to participate in this process.

The formal kick-off meeting is scheduled for September 10 in Cheyenne (registration can be found here). In-person attendance is preferred for this type of meeting, but virtual options are also available for those interested in participating but not able to travel.

If anyone cannot attend the kick-off meeting but is still interested in participating in this process, we are happy to add them to the meeting lists and share information about upcoming sessions.

Zero Suicide Framework Survey

The WDH - Wyoming Injury and Violence Prevention Program (WIVPP) is seeking to assess the interest and readiness of health and behavioral health providers/centers in Wyoming to implement the Zero Suicide Framework.

There has been a lot of conversation with behavioral health providers (counselors/psychologists, etc.) in Wyoming but very little with medical providers in the state. The reality is that the Zero Suicide Framework would be implemented in a lot of medical settings and would intend to intervene with people who are at high risk for suicide whenever and for any reason they have a medical/health appointment.

Please help us by completing this 10-15 minute survey. This information will help guide the WIVPP as they make decisions around whether/how this framework will be implemented in the future and how to support healthcare organizations and providers to effectively implement it.

  • Unlock women's financial power. Powerful demographics, economic and educational changes are increasing women's financial strength and independence. More women are impacting the economy and making investment decisions.
  • Understand how women's needs are different and why it matters. Longer expected life spans, high divorce rates, earnings factors, and increasing control of assets create a different landscape for women than for our male counterparts.
  • Consider actions you can take now to help build a more secure financial future. Now more than ever, it's critical that women be more involved in and informed about investment decisions that affect them. Get some ideas for how to plan today for the future you want for yourself and your family.
