STATE UPDATES

Enroll Wyoming Update

More Wyomingites enrolling in marketplace health insurance.

Enroll Wyoming guides a lot of people through the health insurance marketplace, where consumers can see if they qualify for quality health coverage. Updated numbers show that more than 42,000 residents signed up during the last open enrollment season. If you put them all together, they'd form the third-largest city in Wyoming, based on U.S. Census estimates.

Twenty-two out of 23 counties showed significant growth over last years’ enrollment numbers. While open enrollment doesn't resume until November, you can reach out to an Enroll Wyoming navigator for free to see if you qualify for special enrollment or increase your understanding of your options. Just visit enrollwyo.org or call 211.

Help as available is Medicaid unwinding wraps up.

The Wyoming Department of Health faced a challenge a year ago. Under a process known as "Medicaid unwinding," it needed to restart reviews to see if people were still eligible to re-enroll in the program. The annual reviews were paused for years as part of pandemic relief, and while this was a return to normal, many families had never gone through the process before.

The WDH partnered with groups like Enroll Wyoming to spread the word about unwinding and let people know there were free resources available to help people re-enroll or find alternative coverage if they did not qualify.

Now that the process is wrapping up, the next season of renewals should commence without any expected changes. Additionally, Enroll Wyoming remains available to help families who lose Medicaid or CHIP coverage. For more information, including details on the extended special enrollment period, click here.

WDH - Maternal Mortality Review Committee

Utah-Wyoming MMRC is seeking new committee members.

Current members represent diverse backgrounds, professions, and lived experience; Committee Members serve in 3 year terms with no limit to the number of terms a member serves. These members include medical practitioners, social workers, public health nurses, toxicologists, mental health providers, community leaders, etc.

The Utah-Wyoming Joint MMRC reviews de-identified case case summaries of deaths occurring during pregnancy or within the year of pregnancy, and all information about an identified case is gathered from death and birth certificates, medical records, autopsy reports, and other pertinent sources of information.

The goal of the MMRC reviews are to identify trends and risk factors for pregnancy related-death in Utah and Wyoming, identify preventable risk factors, and develop recommendations or strategies for prevention or intervention.

ACOG Practice Advisory

ACOG issues practice advisory updating syphilis screen in pregnancy recommendations.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) continues to endorse the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Sexually Transmitted Infection Treatment Guidelines, 2021. However, in the context of the rapidly increasing rates of congenital syphilis, obstetrician–gynecologists and other obstetric care professionals should screen all pregnant individuals serologically for syphilis at the first prenatal care visit, followed by universal rescreening during the third trimester and at birth, rather than use a risk-based approach to testing.

This Practice Advisory was developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The American College of Nurse-Midwives, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine endorse this document.

AMA Advocacy Academy

The American Medical Association's Physicians Grassroots Network is excited to announce a new, members-only Advocacy Academy program designed to reinforce the effectiveness of the AMA’s network of physician advocates.

Through a new partnership with the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF), the AMA will offer physician advocates access to the CMF's online advocacy training system at NO COST. This virtual program is self-guided and consists of six modules, approximately 15-minutes in length, that progress from concepts such as how to engage with federal lawmakers to guidance on how to conduct more productive meetings and build stronger relationships with congressional offices.

Participation in the online Advocacy Academy will be offered to the first 30 AMA members in good standing who register for the course. Additional spots may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you miss out on this class, there will be future classes enrolled throughout the year so stay tuned! Questions?
