Back to School Night

Tuesday, September 13th, Back-To-School-Night (BTSN) will be in person at WMS from 6PM – 8PM! It will begin at 6 PM sharp so plan ahead for parking. Due to limited space, parking can be a challenge. Please be respectful and do not block our neighbors’ driveways in the surrounding area. If you cannot attend, course information will be posted in CANVAS. We look forward to seeing you all in person next week! The schedule for the evening is as follows

MorninActivities Fair

Is your student interested in an after school club or activity? If so, they can attend the activities fair.  It will be held on Sept. 19 for 6th grade and Sept. 20 for for 7th and 8th grade from 3-3:30 in the cafeteria.  Late buses will be provided.

Link Your Harris Teeter Grocery Card and Raise Money for WMS PTA!
Don't forget to link your grocery card numbers! Harris Teeter requires re-linking with your school each year. Our linked numbers are low so you may not have re-linked your cards for this year. It's easy and a great way for WMS to earn extra money. Learn how below:

WMS Box Tops Program - Now An Easy-to-Use App!
The Box Tops for Education program is now mobile. This makes it so much easier for families to increase our school earnings. WMS has earned over $12K from Box Tops, funding much-needed programs within our school. Please click here for more information on how to download the app and start sending Box Tops dollars to WMS.

Update Your Information in ParentVue

Have you reviewed your information in ParentVUE as part of the Annual Online Verification Process (AOVP)? Click here to review and update your information. We need every family to verify the information we have is accurate and current. This requires you to log into ParentVUE. More information about the process, including videos and letters in English and Spanish, is available here. Contact the school for help accessing ParentVUE if you need it.

Academic Help Online at No Cost!

NEW Academic Support for Middle and High School Students: the new academic support available for secondary students called PAPER. PAPER provides 24/7 on-demand virtual tutors available to students for assistance with homework, essay review and other academic support in multiple subjects and languages. Teachers have been promoting this service directly to students. Details online. It is a great resource!

Free COVID Testing Resumes

COVID Testing Continues—Opt In Now: Our in-school weekly COVID testing program is available to all students. This testing helps with early detection of positive COVID cases at school, and is available to returning and new students whose parents/guardians either reaffirm their initial consent or complete a new consent form online. Complete information and opt in forms are onlineView the updated COVID-19 Protocols and FAQ online.

APS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Join APS as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. We invite the community to follow us on social media as we celebrate generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively enriched our schools, culture and society.

A brand new Facebook page for Spanish-speaking families has launched! Visit facebook.com/APSenEspanol or search for Escuelas Públicas de Arlington directly on Facebook. The page features news and updates in Spanish, as well as a multitude of exclusive content and Q&A using the chat feature. Volunteering at APS

Thank you to everyone who volunteers in our schools. If you'd like to volunteer please be sure to complete the application process. You can fill out the application online and find additional information regarding volunteering on the APS website.

Transportation Updates

Transportation will continue to make minor modifications to bus schedules over the next few weeks, which is our normal practice at the start of each year to ensure the best possible service. Any changes will be communicated in advance, and we thank you for your feedback and patience.We have over 2,500 families already actively using the WherestheBus tool to track their bus arrival. If you haven’t done so, I encourage our APS bus-eligible families to take advantage of this service.

If you have concerns about your student’s bus schedule or want to share feedback, please contact our Family Information Line on school days at 703-228-8000 and select option 1 for Transportation Services.

Apply for Meal Benefits - Free and Reduced Meal Applications

APS is committed providing healthy nutritious breakfast and lunch for our students. If you believe you may be eligible for meal benefits, please apply now to continue receiving free meals for the current school year. Applications are available in ParentVUE, on the APS Food Services Webpage or online at myschoolapps.com.

Community News

Arlington Public Library has opened The Teleconnect Space at Columbia Pike Library, in partnership with the Arlington County Department of Community Planning, Housing, and Development (CPHD) and the Department of Technology Services (DTS). The Teleconnect Space is a single meeting room at the library branch that is outfitted with a hardwired computer equipped with web access to Zoom, Skype and other video conferencing software. The space is reserved for virtual meetings for specific purposes including telehealth appointments, job interviews, social service appointments, health insurance sign up and college interviews. The Teleconnect Space may be booked online for two hours each day, up to two times per week.


Dance, Dance, Dance! There will be a Junior Royalette Dance Clinic on Saturday, September 24 at Bishop O'Connell In addition to that, participants will be able to join the team on the field for a special halftime performance at the varsity football game. You can sign up here until Sept. 14.
