The WMS PTA Needs Your Help!
No Frills Fundraiser Co-Chairs – No Frills is our biggest fundraiser for WMS PTA. However, we don’t ask for much work! We don’t ask our families to buy or sell things. We only ask that they make a donation (or donations) to the WMS PTA. These chairs typically do an e-blast campaign in the beginning of the school year and then again in the Spring (if needed). Past incentives for the campaign have been donut parties for the winning TA classrooms, but anyone willing to step up can make this campaign whatever they think will work best for our school.

School Supplies – We work with Sprout to provide our families with the option to pre-order school supply kits for the school year. This person needs to be the liaison with Sprout and WMS. In the spring, they reach out to the WMS admin team about creating the list of what’s needed per grade for the upcoming year. Then they work with Sprout to get those lists in their system. Ordering typically goes from after Spring Break until mid-July. It’s all online and automated. Then this person arranges for delivery day at the school for distribution. Sara (previous chair, and has aged out of WMS) is willing to train/shadow you as you learn!

6th Grade Activities Chairs – This can be two or three people that are willing to manage events for the 6th grade. There are typically two—one on the fall, and one in the spring. These chairs manage those events and recruit volunteers, food donations, etc., as needed.

Reflections Contest – The Reflections Contest is run by the National PTA. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. This person is the liaison between the school and the Reflections team.

We know you’d love to help our school! Positions can be shared. Please consider volunteering!

Contact PTA President Heather Selig at president@wmspta.org if you’re interested.

iPads are home! Now what?

Ipads need to be charged daily. Try to come up with a system so mornings won't be frantic. Do you have a set time and place to plug it? Sometimes young minds still need those explicit directions, especially at the beginning of the year. Students can keep up with announcements and assignments on iPads.  Not a bad idea to look and see what they can show you.

WMS Yearbook Ordering is Now Open!
You can already pre-order your WMS 2022-2023 yearbooks.

Reminder that school lunches will not be provided free to all students this year. Students who need assitance must apply. Applications are available in ParentVUE, on the APS Food Services Webpage or online at myschoolapps.com.
APS Transportation Updates

Transportation will continue to make minor modifications to bus schedules over the next few weeks, which is our normal practice at the start of each year to ensure the best possible service. Any changes will be communicated in advance, and we thank you for your feedback and patience. We have over 2,500 families already actively using the WherestheBus tool to track their bus arrival. If you haven’t done so, take advantage of this service.

If you have concerns about your student’s bus schedule or want to share feedback, please contact Family Information Line on school days at 703-228-8000 and select option 1 for Transportation Services.

Arlington Transit has made all travel for APS students on ART buses free with a registered iRide SmarTrip card too. Students with existing iRide SmarTrip cards can automatically participate in the fare free program and do not need to perform any additional steps. If a student would like the option to participate in the fare free program but does not have an iRide SmarTrip card, they will need to either contact the School Transportation Coordinator (STC) at their middle school or high school or visit a Commuter Store. The initial number of iRide SmarTrip cards will be limited but additional cards will be available in October.
