Celebrating Earth Week
As a child, my brothers and I spent a lot of time outdoors. We climbed trees, collected berries and apples with our grandmother, watched tadpoles as they magically turned into frogs, chased lightning bugs, skated on frozen ponds and so much more. The outdoors was one of our dearest friends. Many of us have fond childhood memories about time spent outdoors. Time to run free, explore, notice and wonder. The natural world provides many teachers, if we pay attention.
This week is Earth Week. On Saturday, we will spend time beautifying the WMS campus. It is an opportunity to spend time outdoors, not only pulling a few errant weeds (which are simply plants growing where they are not wanted), but to also consider what the earth has given us and how we can preserve its wonder and beauty. Our 25 acres sets us apart from many other schools. It allows our community the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. One of the goals of a WMS education is to teach students to become stewards of the earth. Saturday is a day organized to give a bit back to the land we have been given and value as part of our school experience. We hope you will join us and that if you can’t, that you will be able to take some time this week to appreciate the wonder of nature and the gifts it offers.
Happy Earth Week!
