Campus Beautification Day:

A Thank You from WMS Facilities Manager Jaron Simms

Dear WMS Families & Staff,

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to the families that assisted during our recent campus beautification day. Your hard work and dedication truly made a difference in enhancing the appearance and functionality of our school.

The items completed are too many to list, but I do want to highlight the areas where your efforts made an obvious difference:

  • Planting new shrubs at the front entrance
  • Weeding and mulching the front patio flower beds
  • Filling play areas with new sand
  • Weeding and filling raised beds to prepare for planting
  • General clean-up (removing branches, leaves etc.)

This work enhanced our campus' aesthetics and lightened our maintenance team's workload. You accomplished in one day what would have easily taken us a week.

Thank you once again for your commitment and hard work! We are incredibly fortunate to have families like you who are dedicated to making our school a better place for all.

Sincerely,

Jaron & The WMS Maintenance Team

Classroom Highlights

STEAM Day - Primary (3-6) & Lower Elementary (6-9) Programs

In honor of Earth Day, the Primary and Lower Elementary students enjoyed a nature-themed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) event on Monday.

STEAM Day featured a variety of hands-on activities, led by WMS parents and teachers, designed to foster a deeper connection with nature. From planting a tasty garden of greens for our bunnies, Coco and Channel, to crafting intricate seed mosaics, creating Earth Day chalk art, making messy mud paintings, and engaging in the meditative task of wrapping branches with yarn, the students immersed themselves in creativity and exploration.

As they explored our campus, their excitement and wonder demonstrated the importance of experiential learning in nurturing a profound appreciation for our Earth. It was a day filled with joy, discovery and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the beauty that surrounds us.

Empty Bowl Event - Upper Elementary (9-12) & Middle School Programs

Through this school year, the 9-12 and Middle School programs have been focusing on community service. From gathering supplies for Faithful Friends Animal Society to volunteering at the Food Bank, and delving into discussions about food and water insecurity, our oldest students have deeper understanding of global human needs and began to consider what they could do to support the needs of the larger community.

Inspired by their learning, these students have put together a special event for the WMS community, a gathering aimed at supporting the Food Bank of Delaware, the World Food Program, Water for South Sudan, and Water is Life Kenya. At the Empty Bowl Event, WMS families and staff will purchase tickets that include a ceramic bowl (handmade by a student or staff member) and a soup dinner. The students have even created their own website to share information about this event and facilitate ticket sales.

We invite you to peruse the site, check out the flyer below and join us for the Empty Bowl Event on May 22!
