Campus Beautification Day: Cultivating Care and Connection

Dear Families,

At WMS, we often speak about the power of community—and with good reason. There's something truly special about belonging to a group that shares common values, works toward shared goals and supports one another along the way.

That sense of community also comes with shared responsibility. Together, families and staff work to help students grow into confident learners and self-advocates. But just as important is our shared responsibility to model how we care for each other and for the spaces we share.

This past weekend, our third annual Campus Beautification Day brought that spirit to life. The turnout was incredible, with students, families and staff coming together to tackle projects both large and small. The day was filled with connection, collaboration and pride in our school. Most inspiring was watching students learn by doing—working alongside the adults in their lives and discovering that taking care of a place can be joyful, even on a Saturday morning.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Your time, energy and enthusiasm made a lasting impact—not just on our campus, but on the sense of community that makes WMS so special. The goal of “beautification” was more than met, and we had plenty of fun along the way.

NEWS & NOTES

Helping Hands and Dancing Feet: Support the Upper Elementary (9-12) Program CANgineering Project!

The 9-12 students at WMS are excited to take part in CANgineering, a creative, community-based program hosted by the Food Bank of Delaware. The challenge? Build a sculpture entirely out of canned goods—and then donate all of the food to support local families in need.

We need your help to make it happen! Now through Friday, May 2, we’re collecting non-perishable canned food items to use in our structure. After the build, everything will be donated directly to the Food Bank of Delaware. Stop by the lobby or look for Food Bank boxes throughout the school to make your donation!

Most needed items include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned soups
  • Canned meats (like tuna and chicken)
  • Canned fruits
  • Canned dinners (spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, etc.)

As food insecurity continues to impact families across our region—and as organizations like the Food Bank of Delaware face funding cuts—this project is one small way we can all make a difference together.

And there’s more...

WMS Dance Party to Benefit the Food Bank of Delaware - This Friday!

Stop by the lobby to pick up a flyer and learn more from our 9-12 students.

Reminder: Don't forget to submit your Co-op hours by the last day of school!

As we approach the end of the school year, it's a good time to check on your Co-op hours and make sure you are close to reaching your 25-hour requirement.

If you've earned Co-op hours by supporting your child's classroom, attending family education events (e.g., Curriculum Nights, The Journey or Lunch & Learns) or completing a school-wide Co-op job, you can record your hours via FACTS. You can also check FACTS to view hours that have been previously submitted.

To log your hours in FACTS (see screenshot below):

  1. Log into your account on the FACTS Family Portal (Our district code is WM-DE).
  2. Click "Family" in the left side bar, and then "Family Home."
  3. Now, you will see your dashboard. Click "Add" under "Service Hours."
  4. Enter your information, leaving "Note" and "Verified By" blank - these are for staff use. Click "Save."
  5. Administrative staff will periodically review and verify entries.
  6. If you are claiming hours for purchases, please submit your receipts by email to co-op@wmsde.org.

If you have any questions regarding submitting your hours, email co-op@wmsde.org!
