NEWS & NOTES

TONIGHT (April 9) - Family Education/Co-op Opportunity

Webinar: Planning for Summers of Growth & Joy
Presented by Michael Thompson

Join ADVIS/ISACS for their final family education webinar of the school year, tonight at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom!

For most parents, planning a summer for their children is a complex mix of their own work demands, requests to visit extended family, the ages, temperaments and interests of their children, pressure on children from sports coaches, and the goals parents have for summer family time. For children, summer is a time to grow and develop in new ways. Thompson will address the conflicting pressures on summer planning, while suggesting that goals for summer should include relief from the stress and anxiety of school, opportunities to make new friends in a different context, and chances to take (supervised) risks and master new skills.

Each attendee will earn one hour of Co-op (must be submitted through FACTS). See Bloomz for registration information.

We hope you will join us for the WMS Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. on Zoom (the link will be shared via Bloomz).

The WMS Board of Directors and Head of School host this annual meeting to provide an opportunity for parents, guardians, staff and community members to hear directly from board members. If you have any questions that you would like to see addressed at the meeting, please email them to annualmeeting@wmsde.org by 4:30 p.m on Friday, April 18.

Yesterday, all current WMS families should have received an invitation and ballot to vote for this year's board nominees. Please contact Noel Dietrich if you did not receive this message.

Play Safely After School at WMS

We all love the WMS campus and are thrilled to see families enjoy it after school hours. To keep the fun going and ensure everyone's safety, here are some important guidelines for playground play:

  • Supervision:
  • Children of all ages must have adult supervision at all times. WMS staff is not responsible for supervising children who are not enrolled in official after-school programs.
  • Use of play areas is at the discretion of staff on duty (i.e., Staff may ask students to play in other areas if they are interfering with after-care or school sports activities.)
  • Recess Rules:
  • Remind your children that all regular recess rules apply after school.
  • Equipment Use:
  • Children should use equipment they can handle independently.
  • Swing sets: One child per swing, no jumping off.
  • Slide: Climb up the ladder, slide down one at a time.
  • Use designated climbing equipment only. Tree climbing is not allowed.
  • Restroom Use/Forgotten Items:
  • Children in the 6-9 Program and younger should be accompanied by an adult when returning to the building to use the restrooms or retrieve a forgotten item.
  • Nature Appreciation:
  • Enjoy nature, but leave it where it is for others to enjoy!
  • Cleanup:
  • Please clean up toys and trash after play.
  • Wooded Areas:
  • Adults must accompany children of all ages in the woods.
  • Watch for poison ivy along the fence line and in the woods - report any sightings to WMS staff.
  • Apply bug repellent before outdoor play and carefully check for ticks, particularly after spending time in the grass and wooded areas.

Let's ensure a safe and enjoyable playtime for all!
