School Drop-off & Pick-up - Updated

Thank you in advance for helping our car lines run safely and smoothly! The information below has been updated with our 2021-22 school year procedures!

Car Line Procedures
During drop-off, cars will line up in designated areas. WMS staff will indicate when it is safe to exit the vehicle, and parents or students are expected to open the doors of the vehicle. For their safety, students should ONLY exit the car on the side near the curb.

Each morning, a staff member will perform a brief screening, consisting of a temperature check (must be below 100.4°F) and a conversation about signs of any illness or COVID-related symptoms. If a student has signs of illness evident during the screening process, they will not be permitted to attend school, and the school nurse will follow up with the family to determine next steps.

During drop-off, all students and staff must be masked due to the close proximity necessary for the temperature screening.

Note for Siblings: In the case of families with multiple children, they will drop off at the location designated for their oldest child and pick up in the area assigned to their youngest. Example: If a family has a toddler and a middle-schooler, that family will drop both children off at the elementary/middle school entrance and pick up both at the toddler entrance.

Children will be brought to the car at the end of the school day for pick-up, at the same entrance used for drop-off, except in the case of siblings (see above).

Morning Drop-off:
Extended Day before-care for Primary, Elementary and Middle School - Great Room Door - 7-8:40 a.m.
Toddlers (including before-care) - Toddler Playground - 7-9 a.m.

Late drop-off - If you plan to arrive later than your child's designated drop-off time, please notify your child's teacher or call the school at 302-475-0555. During regular drop-off times, additional staff members are scheduled to provide health screenings to students if your family arrives after this time, you may need to wait for a staff member to become available for screening.

Sign Up for Bloomz: Important Information about Classroom Communication

This year, we are once again be using Bloomz as our primary method of parent-teacher communication. Teachers use Bloomz to share group posts and individual photos with families, providing a regular glimpse into our classrooms. It will also be used for school-wide announcements.

Returning Families
Returning families should be able to continue to use their accounts from last year. If your child is now in a new classroom, please make sure you log in and accept invitations to your child's new class to ensure that you don't miss any updates.

New Families
All new families should have received an invitation to join Bloomz by email. Click on Join in the email and follow the instructions to sign up. Along with the main WMS feed, you should see your child's classroom number and posts from that teacher. If you have not received an invitation, please contact Noel DietrichWe advise that you turn on all notifications to ensure that you don't miss anything. We also recommend downloading the app (search for Bloomz in the app store) to receive push notifications.

If you have questions or need assistance setting up your account, please contact Noel Dietrich!
Staffing Updates
Farewell Nurse Kathy; Welcome Nurse Mariah

Nurse Kathy's last day at WMS will be this Friday, August 27. We know that many members of the WMS community will miss Kathy, and we thank her for all of her hard work keeping the WMS community safe and healthy for the past two years.

Kathy has been working this week to hand off the school nursing responsibilities to Mariah Orr, our new school nurse. Mariah is looking forward to working with children and bringing her clinical knowledge to further our health and safety.

Please continue to email any nursing-related information to nurse@wmsde.org so information can be seamlessly shared with our new nurse as we prepare for the new school year.
Extended Day/Camp Programs - Farewell to Tracey

Tracey Gable, Director of Montessori Enrichment, will also be moving from WMS. Her last day of work will be Thursday, September 2. We thank her for her service to WMS and look forward to continuing to remain connected with her as a WMS parent. Following her departure from WMS, please send questions about Extended Day programming to extendedday@wmsde.org - depending on your question, you will receive a response from the business office or another administrative staff member.

COVID-19 Testing: Next Results Due on Monday, August 30 (in order to attend the first day of school)

WMS requires ongoing testing for students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. To begin the school year, all students and staff must submit negative COVID-19 test results (from a test taken on or after August 23) by noon on Monday, August 30. Results must be emailed to nurse@wmsde.org as soon as they become available. If you are sending a screenshot, please include the date tested.

Important: Please understand that if no results are forwarded to the nurse, your child will not be permitted to attend school on Tuesday, August 31. If your results are forwarded after noon on the due date, you may experience a delay in drop-off the next morning. A last-minute result may delay or prevent your child from attending school; time must be allowed for communication to the staff members conducting screenings in the car line.

Upcoming Due Dates
August 30 (Test on or after August 23)
September 13 (Test on or after September 6)

We are in discussions to host onsite COVID testing. We will share more information about this as soon as it is available.

As always, you are still welcome to have your child tested more frequently and may forward the results to nurse@wmsde.org.

Thank you, and please contact the school nurse if you have any questions!

Help Us Wrap Up Our 2020-21 Annual Fund Year

As we get ready to start our new school year, we're wrapping up our 2020-21 Annual Fund. Please help us reach $90,000 before August 31!

This year, gifts to the annual fund have helped WMS:
  • Increase enrollment by providing financial assistance to families who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a WMS education.
  • Maintain our beautiful 25-acre campus and facilities, allowing us to focus on safe outdoor learning during the pandemic.
  • Allow our teachers and staff to attend a variety of professional development programs, including this summer's Science of Teaching and School Leadership Academy
The Wednesday Weekly shares WMS news and events that are relevant to the families in our community.

Please send submissions to wednesday-weekly@wmsde.org by 4:30 p.m. on the Friday prior to the issue in which you wish to include your information. Content may be edited for length and style and may be held for a future issue due to space constraints.
