NEWS & NOTES
Family Involvement Meeting Recap
Thank you to the families who participated in last month's meeting regarding family involvement at WMS. At this meeting, Lisa and the WMS Board shared the importance of the connection between home and school and how the Co-op Program supports this connection.

We discussed opportunities to become involved at WMS including supporting the admissions team as parent ambassadors, helping to plan a social event for this spring or the upcoming fall, and working with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee to increase the diversity of our faculty and staff. Parents also shared ideas about showing their appreciation for teachers and expressed their interest in seeing more Co-op opportunities shared on Bloomz.

If you are interested in getting involved with any of the initiatives above, please fill out this form by Friday, February 4.
COVID-19 Reminders
As we enter February, we are happy to see COVID case numbers declining in our state; however, they remain much higher than they were before this winter surge so we will continue to take precautions to keep our families and staff safe. As always, our procedures and policies are based on guidance from the Delaware Division of Public Health.

Thank you for helping us continue to keep our community healthy by keeping your children home when they are sick, participating in weekly COVID-19 testing, adjusting drop-off/pick-up procedures, supplying well-fitting masks for your children and so much more.

Health Reminders
  • Please continue to keep your children home if they don't feel well and notify nurse@wmsde.org of any exposures.
  • Take some time to check the fit of your child's masks and reinforce the importance of keeping the nose fully covered when masking.
  • We have observed that many surgical masks do not fit tightly enough for many children's faces - if this is the case for your child, consider combining it with a better-fitting cloth mask or purchasing child-size KN95 masks.
  • If your child is unable to wear their mask properly, they may be asked to quarantine/isolate for the full 10 days if they are exposed or test positive.

Car Line Reminders
  • Please make sure your child is masked and ready to go before pulling up to the front of the car line. If your child needs extra time to prepare to exit the vehicle, please pull out of the way and re-enter the line when they are ready to be screened.
  • Assist our staff and give your child a good start to the school day by arriving during our designated drop-off times. Staff are scheduled to assist with drop-off during specific times, after which they move on to our duties throughout the school. Thank you for supporting your child and helping our school's operations by arriving at school on time!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions!
COVID-19 Testing Update: Next Results Due Tuesday, February 8

On-Site Testing with Quidel

Next Testing Deadline - Tuesday, February 8 - Please read the information below carefully:

  • On-site: Quidel will be on-site for testing on February 8. All registered students will be tested on that day. Results will be sent to parents that afternoon and must be forwarded to covidresults@wmsde.org. WMS does not automatically receive copies of each child's results on the day of testing. These results must be forwarded by 4:30 p.m. in order for your child to attend school on Wednesday, February 9.

  • Families that choose NOT to participate in Quidel testing must test off-site each week and submit results to covidresults@wmsde.org by NOON each Tuesday. If you are submitting a screenshot, please include the date tested.

  • If your child misses testing due to an absence or lateness to school, your child must get tested off-site to attend school on Wednesday. Solv Health offers a directory of locations that provide rapid and PCR tests daily. Please plan to arrive on time on testing days - testing begins immediately after drop-off.

  • Please Note: If your child will not allow Quidel staff to conduct the test on a particular week, you will be called and asked to pick up your child to be tested elsewhere in order to adhere to our testing deadline.

Thank you, and please contact the school nurse if you have any questions!
