Dear Families,
My time at Wilmington Montessori School and Camp Montessori is off to an amazing start, and I wanted to share a few highlights from this summer, along with previewing some upcoming events.
Field Trips
Field trips are a cornerstone of the Camp Montessori experience (for campers in kindergarten and older), and our three new destinations this summer (Linvilla Orchards, Main Event and today’s Blue Rocks game) were a hit! In the coming weeks, we look forward to trips to the Wilmington & Western Railroad, Delaware Children’s Museum and Guppy Gulch. Please keep an eye out for permission slips coming home if your child’s group is attending one of these field trips.
Visitors
This summer, we welcomed Clem Bowen, the Juggling Hoffmans and Kidz Delight back to Camp Montessori for in-house field trips. Our Turtles and Pandas loved Clem’s unique blend of storytelling and musical performance, and campers of all ages were entertained by the Hoffmans’ juggling talents and Kidz Delight’s creative storytelling using balloons!
Archery Camp
As our campers get older, many look forward to participating in our Archery specialty camps. (Check out the video below!) This summer, we held two archery programs. The first week (Archery I) focused on the basics of target shooting and safety, while the second week (Archery II) provided opportunities to experiment with more difficult shots and new types of equipment and projectiles. At the end of the second week, it was exciting to witness the campers applying what they learned and even teaching some staff members the basics of archery. On the last day, campers designed their own targets and showed off their skills by not only shooting their creations but also a piñata.
Camp-Wide Events & Activities
Over the past few weeks, the campers have been preparing for this Friday’s Olympics Day. Elementary-age campers have been learning about the Olympics during their Friday PE classes, and each classroom is creating a banner representing their room for the Olympic parade, which will kick off a fun-filled day of activities and teamwork. As we wrap up the summer, we’re looking forward to more camp-wide fun and events including Rita’s Water Ice Day (Week 8) and a foam party (Week 10)!
I’ve truly enjoyed meeting all of our Camp Montessori families and forming wonderful bonds with your children. WMS has welcomed me with open arms. I look forward to leading camp again next year, along with coordinating our Extended Day Program during the school year. I also hope to see a lot of familiar faces as I take on the role of WMS’s physical education teacher in the fall.
Best,
