NEWS & NOTES
Delaware's Giving Day - Help WMS Do More This Thursday and Friday
Wilmington Montessori School will be participating in Do More 24 Delaware for a fourth year, from 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 to 6 p.m. on March 3. Do More 24 is a day-long celebration of the many non-profit organizations, including WMS, that contribute to life in Delaware.

How can you participate?
1. Give (and have your gift matched!) - Sign up for a reminder and make a gift to WMS through the Do More 24 website during the 24-hour event! An anonymous WMS Board member will be matching up to $500 in gifts contributed through this event! Gifts of all sizes matter - there are hourly bonuses given to organizations with the most individual donations ($5 or more) and a stretch pool with matching funds based on the amount of funds we raise over the 24-hour event... In other words, your gifts will DO MORE if you give during Do More 24!

2. Help us spread the word through social media! Share our posts or post about WMS on FacebookInstagram or Twitter using #DoMore24DE and tag us! Several Do More 24 sponsors are offering bonus donations to organizations with social media activity related to this event. You can begin by retweeting this post (WMS will receive $1 if you tag @wmsde and use #DoMore24DE)!

3. Share our fundraiser link - www.domore24delaware.org/fundraisers/wilmington-montessori-school - with friends and family! Do you have friends or family members in other states or countries? Prizes will be given to organizations with international donations and those who receive gifts from the most U.S. states!

What is this fundraiser for?
Funds raised through Do More 24 2023 will go toward WMS's 2022-23 Annual Fund. Annual fund gifts help provide financial assistance to families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a WMS education, support our teachers’ quests for lifelong learning, allow us to maintain our beautiful 25-acre campus and facilities, and so much more. We are about $2,000 away from this year's $85,000 annual fund goal and we know we can get there with your help!

Bonuses -
  • 3 WMS swag packs will be raffled off to families who donate $100 or more through our Do More 24 site!
  • Visit the Do More 24 prizes page to see how your gift or social media post can help WMS earn bonus funds!

Contact Noel Dietrich, Director of Advancement & Communications if you have any questions and join our Facebook event pageThank you for all of your support!
FACTS Re-enrollment New

During the next few weeks, staff in the Business Office and on the Admissions team will be reviewing re-enrollment materials to verify that all of the necessary steps have been completed. We will be double checking that the appropriate documents have been submitted and required signatures have been added. We wanted to let re-enrolling families know that you may be contacted if there are any required details that have inadvertently been missed.

We have greatly appreciated your patience and understanding as we have implemented the new Family Portal feature and student information system within the larger FACTS system. Each week, we are learning new ways that the upgraded FACTS system will benefit families and staff as we move into next year.

Toddler Program
Toddlers in Room 4 Blast Off into Space Unit, Learning about Black Scientists Mae Jemison and Benjamin Banneker
Toddlers in Room 4 reached for the stars this February as they learned about space and astronomy. Students read the book The ABCs of Black History and learned about two Black scientists and their contributions to the field of astronomy: Dr. Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to travel to space, and Benjamin Banneker, an astronomer, mathematician and writer. The class made telescopes, talked about stars and constellations, and imagined what it would be like to travel to space on a rocket. They enjoyed the messy sensory experience of mixing and squeezing flour and oil to make "Moon Sand" and even launched their own rocket with Paula in the Maker Studio!
Upper Elementary (9-12) Program
Upper Elementary Students Explore Civil Rights and Travel Themes through Literature Circles

Literature circles and book discussions are an important part of the language arts curriculum in the Upper Elementary (9-12) Program. This months, students were asked to choose one of the books above, written by Black authors and sharing the themes of Civil Rights and travel. Students have been offered an opportunity to see the world from new perspectives and learn about the cultural experiences and journeys these award-winning writers have opened up for them. Check out these wonderful books on Amazon via the links below or find them in your local library:

The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis
One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia
