NEWS & NOTES

Congratulations, Delegates!

Congratulations to our sixth- through eighth-graders for representing WMS at last week’s Montessori Model United Nations conference! Our delegates collaborated with students from around the world to tackle global issues, from environmental sustainability to gender equality and pandemic preparedness. Their hard work and diplomacy were even recognized by their peers—three of our students were even chosen to present their committees’ resolutions at the closing ceremony!

Check out our social media for more photos, and stay tuned for a full recap coming soon!

Reminder from our Nursing Team - Are your child's health records up to date?

With spring break coming up, we know many families will use the time to catch up on doctor’s appointments. If you haven’t already done so, please submit your child’s most recent health appraisal, vaccination records, lead testing results and any updates to medical conditions. If your child has emergency medication in the nurse’s office, this is also a great time to check in and make sure it hasn’t expired.

You can email the documents (and any questions) to nurse@wmsde.org or drop them off at the front desk or nurse’s office. Thanks for helping us keep our records up to date!

Middle School Students Explore Movement Through Life Sports

Adolescence is a time of rapid change and growth—both mentally and physically. At WMS, Middle School students continue their physical education through Life Sports, a program designed to introduce them to a variety of physical activities that promote lifelong health and an active lifestyle.

Instead of traditional PE classes, middle-schoolers take part in Life Sports, an expeditionary learning experience that takes them beyond the classroom and into the local community. This year, students have explored Capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, acrobatics, dance and music), canoeing and strength training at Breaking Barriers gym. They have just begun tap dance lessons as their next Life Sports activity, in preparation for our spring musical, Newsies. Previous Life Sports activities include rock climbing, CrossFit, kickboxing, Zumba and rowing.

With input from students, Life Sports offers opportunities to discover new interests, develop skills and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Sign-up before spring break!

Program must have sufficient enrollment to be held. For more information, contact Mariah Spencer, Extended Day Program Coordinator.
